Describe the process of making consumer decisions, including the comparison of goods and services.
Materials
Needed / Cosby Show Video, Calculator, Furniture Templates

Anticipatory Set – activities that help focus students on the lesson of the day (the “hook”) / Cosby Show “Theo Moves Out”
QW “Describe how you see your first apartment”
Teaching the Lesson
Ø  Modeling – how will you demonstrate the skill or competency?
Ø  Instructional Strategies – how will you deliver the lesson?
Ø  Check for Understanding – how will you ensure the skill or competency is understood by the students? / Define wants vs needs.
Discuss items and furnishings used in each room/area of the apartment.
Define minimum requirements for each room.
Compare shopping sources for acquiring furnishings.

Guided Practice /
Monitoring – an activity directly supervised by the instructor that allows students to demonstrate grasp of new learning. Instructor moves around the room determining the level of mastery and providing individual remediation as needed. / Make a list of items and furnishings used in each room/area of the apartment. Be sure to meet minimum requirements defined in class.
Using internet, look up prices of items/furnishings.
List items for each room and subtotal. Tally subtotals and compare to budget constraint.
Prioritize items into 3 phase spending plan. Subtotal each phase.
Using a floor plan of an apartment, design a furniture layout using the items identified above.
Differentiated
Learning Needs
Closure – Statements or actions made by the instructor that help students make sense out of what has just been taught, to help form a coherent picture, to eliminate confusion and frustration, and to reinforce major points to be learned. / What have you learned about where to shop and working within a budget?
Independent
Practice – a question or problem for students to ponder on their own or in small groups or pairs. The aim is to reinforce and extend the learning beyond the lesson and ideally into real world settings. This may be a homework assignment. / Make a list of steps to help others to work within a budget.
