I. Welcome and Role Call / Barbara Jacobs welcomed the participants. She did a roll call of the hospitals and organizations at today’s meeting. Various members announced their organization’s achievements and awards since the last meeting. Anne Arundel Medical Center announced that they were designated in September 2014 as a Magnet Hospital. Extension Healthcare, Your Patient Boards and AccuVein sponsored the meeting today.

Guest Speaker / Alison Burrows reported our current membership as 190 members. Twenty five new members have joined since the April 2014 meeting.
Jesus Cepero stated that the guest speaker for the November 2014 and January 2015 meetings will be Carmela Coyle, President and CEO of the Maryland Hospital Association (MHA). The November 20th topic will be “Whither Performance Improvement?” This session will be an interactive exchange of ideas facilitated by Carmela focused on performance improvement. The January Meeting discussion will be on “State Of The State” concerning our progress with the new waiver in Maryland. The April 28, 2015 meeting will be the annual EBP Research Poster presentation.
Christine Bish announced the next consortium will be at Frederick Regional Health System on November 7th. The topic will be on Staff Engagement. A member from MONE needs to sign the contract from each organization in the consortium. The contract requires a VP of Nursing or Assistant VP of Nursing to speak at a consortium event. Also, each organization needs to host a consortium.
C.J. Marbley spoke as the representative for Jody Porter. Our current balance is $468, 552.71. Recently, $1,200.00 was paid for the Board Members’ insurance costs as required by AONE for affiliation.
Sherry Perkins stated that Mary Anne Greene is the director for the Nurse Residency Program in Maryland. MONE supports nurse leaders to support a standardized nurse residency program in Maryland. Data is needed for new graduates who maintain their jobs for the first year after their nurse residency program. MONE will be the lead organization for the Program. So far, 17 hospitals have joined the Program. Maryland has a 4% turnover rate which is less than the national average.
The committee will provide mentors for writing abstracts and poster presentations for EBP and quality improvement projects. No date or time has been set for the mentoring sessions.
The topic for today’s meeting was, “Hot Topics in Labor & Employment Law: Developments at the NLRB and the EEOC.” The speaker was Robert R. Niccolini, J.D. from Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C.
