REGULAR BOARD MEETING MINUTES

March 21, 2016

The Regular Board Meeting was held on Monday, March 21, 2016 at The LeaderShop, 4903 S. Willow Springs Road, La Grange, IL 60525. The Meeting was called to order by President Bures at 7:01 P.M.

President Bures asked for the Roll Call.

Roll Call: Commissioners present: Bob Bures, Christopher Getty, Jim Durkan, Colleen Kelly, Sophia Mallis, Bill Seith, Steve Palmer and Anthony Przeklasa

Absent: Commissioner Al Dorobiala,

Staff Present:Ron Melka, Executive Director and Barbara Minneci, Administrative Assistant

Agency Directors: Diane Farina White, Community Support Services; Alan Morales, Bruce Hill, Kimberly Steiner, Katie Wiseheart, The LeaderShop and Stephanie Arreguin, Freshman at RB High School.

Guests:Jessica Fese, Attorney, Del Galdo Law Group, LLC

AMENDMENTS/ APPROVAL OF AGENDA:

The Agenda was reviewed.

A MOTION was made by Palmer, seconded by Seith to approve the Agenda as distributed. Ayes: Unanimous. Nays: None. Hearing no Nays, the Agenda was approved.

REVIEW/ APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

The Minutes of the Board Meeting held on February 22, 2016 were reviewed.

A MOTION was made by Palmer, seconded by Mallis, to approve the Minutes of the February 22, 2016 meeting as distributed. Ayes: Unanimous. Nays: None. Minutes were approved.

LEADERSHOP PRESENTATION:

Alan Morales, Executive Director thanked the Commission for giving The LeaderShop the opportunity to host this meeting. The Presentation updates the Commissioners on what’s been going on at The LeaderShop over the last four months and where The LeaderShop is going, both internally from a structure prospective as well as programmatically. Mr. Morales stated Cathy Pierson, who has been with The LeaderShop for about 33 years, has taken on a new role at The LeaderShop. She is now Director of Volunteers & Community Relations. Mr. Morales introduced The LeaderShop staff that was present. Kimberly Steiner and Katie Wiseheart, each gave an excellent report on what they are doing as Program Managers. Bruce Hill, Director of Development and Public Relations thanked the Commission for their support for all The LeaderShop’s special events, and thanked all that participated in the Pirate Party especially those who were in the Brig. Stephanie Arreguin, Freshman at RB High School, also gave an insightful report on how The LeaderShop has helped her.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT:

Ron Melka, Executive Director, supplemented his written report, which was included in the Board Packet. He met with the Agency Advisory Council and discussed the Grant Application Process. He will be making individual site visits to go over each Agency’s Application. He would like to schedule a Finance Committee Meeting in May to review the Budget and the Grant Applications. The Drug Free Coalition of Lyons Township met on March 14. 2016. Cole Smith, Senior at Lyons Township High School gave an outstanding presentation analyzing data provided by ten Police Departments that service Lyons Township. A Youth Task Force has been formed and it has eleven members. Alan Morales, The LeaderShop and Karen Dziagwa, YMCA La Grange Area, are the two chair people of this Committee. Brew Moon Meetings are underway; the date has been set for October 15, 2016. Commissioner Palmer stated at least 30 Agencies have applied for the Brew Moon Grants. Ron Melka also updated the lists of bills that have been tracked through the State Association. Also, Township Officials of Illinois (TOI) has set April 6, 2016, as their Springfield meeting and rally day. Some 708 Boards and Ron Melks may attend.

President Bures is planning to be in Springfield on April 6, 2016 for the rally, and offered his help to Diane Farina-White, CSS, who is also planning to be in Springfield at that time.

AGENCY DIRECTORS’ REPORT:

Diane Farina-White, of CSS, said the “Beat the Odd” event is Friday, April 1. Diane thanked the Commission for the Sponsorship. Diane reported that she and Mary Beth Hepp, Helping Hand, are looking at some collaboration with each agency’s CILA with regard to employment and resources. Hopefully, by next Board Meeting, she and Mary Beth Hepp can talk further on this subject.

Alan Morales, of The LeaderShop, spoke about the Pirate Party and thanked the Commission again for all the support.

Commissioner Bures also reported a monthly report from Pillars, Helping Hand and the Center for Independence Through Conductive Education have also been submitted for review.

OLD BUSINESS:

The Agencies are working on the Grant Applications which are due March 31, 2016.

NEW BUSINESS: NONE

TREASURER’S REPORT:

Treasurer Getty presented the Treasurer’s Report for March 21, 2016 as follows:

Beginning Balance as of January 31, 2016:$2,207,012.29

Receipts during February 2016: $ 588,420.79

Disbursements during February, 2016: $ 343,626.89

Ending Balance as of February 29, 2016: $2,451,806.19

A MOTION was made by Seith and seconded by Durkan to approve the Treasurer’s Report dated March 21, 2016. Ayes: Unanimous. Nays: None. Motion Carried. Hearing no nays, the Treasurer’s Report is accepted.

Ron gave an update on the interest rates that have been made available to him by the Banks. The interest rates change every week. Ron will be calling Commissioner Getty by the end of the week with the interest rates for the CD’s that are coming due.

REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF MONTHLY PAYABLES:

Treasurer Getty presented the list of twenty seven (27) Payables for the month of March, 2016 in the amount of $345,212.40.

A MOTION was made by Getty and seconded by Mallis to approve the Payables Monthly Report dated March 21, 2016 and approve the purchase of five additional tickets at $150.00 each for the Helping Hand Gala on April 9, 2016. Roll Call: Ayes: Chris Getty, Sophia Mallis, Bob Bures, Colleen Kelly, Bill Seith, Jim Durkan, Steve Palmer and Anthony Przeklasa. Nays: None. Motion Carried.

Commissioner Palmer questioned the Commission on Payable line item “Chicago Tribune for $71.37”. He made a suggestion that the Commission look closely at the expenditures at the next Budget Meeting and determine how the Commission could eliminate some items.

President Bures and the Commission extended warm congratulations to counsel from Del Galdo Law Group, LLC on Michael T. Del Galdo being selected again for the “Super Lawyers Magazine” feature.

Ron Melka told the Commissioners he would e-mail all of them the Annual Report for their review and advised them that it is already posted on the LTMHC Website.
