NVFC Streamed Team Policy
January 2010
Overview
NSFC (working name) is participating in the U11 4 District Program, also known as “U11 Streamed Teams”. The U11 Streamed Teams will be comprised of our strongerplayers who have the potential to play competitively in the U11 4 D Program. The number of U11 Streamed Teams formed each year will vary each season depending on the results of our Player Evaluation Process.
The teams will play in the 4 District Soccer League in an interlocking schedule with teams from the North Shore, Burnaby, Vancouver, and Richmond. The number of Steamed Teams formed will depend on the numbers of players interested in participating in this program, their skill levels and the overall skill level of the entire age group. Our U11 Streamed Teams will be balanced; i.e., equal strength. The remaining U11 players will play in the N.S.Y.S.A. House League with games strictly on the North Shore.
The emphasis is on player development for all U11 teams. Game scores must be reported for monitoring purposes only and will never be published. All players can expect to receive equal playing time.
Players will be placed on U11 Streamed Teams based on the results of the Player Evaluation Process. The evaluation process gives consideration to a player’s skill level, athletic ability, and playing ability. . A player and his parents/guardians should consider the attitude required as well as the time and effort commitment involved with a streamed team.
U11 Streamed Team coaches, parents and players can expect:
- Games to be played on and off the North Shore
- Team practices to be held twice a week
- Team participation in tournaments over the summer and on holiday weekends
- Team practices occasionally over the summer
- Player participation in additional outside player development to be encouraged.
NSFC Streamed Team Policy
The NSFC Streamed Team Policy adheres to the NSFCEvaluation Process with the following exception:
- Phase 3 – Evaluation Teams is eliminated.
Player Evaluation Process
Eligible Age
Underage and overage players are not permitted. For example, only players with their 10th birthday in 2010 are eligible to participate in the U-11 age group in the 2010/2011 season.
Phase One – U10 Player Evaluations
All U10 players will be invited to Community Evaluation Camps. All 3 camps will be of the same format, and if at all possible, use the same evaluators. The evaluations will be comprised of drills, small-sided games, and full-field games. All U10 coaches will be informed as to the specific drills that will be used prior to the evaluation camps. U10 coaches will be informed which boys from their team will be asked to attend the next step in the evaluation process. At this time, the U10 coaches will also have the opportunity to advocate for any players not selected.
Any player unable to attend this camp must notify the Evaluations Director via his AGC prior to the Camp specifying the reason for his absence. He may be invited to Phase 2 Select Team Ranking Camp based on his coach's recommendation.
Phase Two – Streamed Team Ranking Camp
The players that have been identified as having the ability to play at the Streamed Team level will then be invited to attend the Streamed Team Ranking Camp. Please note that invitation to attend this camp does not necessarily mean that a player will be placed on a U11 Streamed Team.
Prior to the camp, players invited to the Streamed Team Ranking Camp will register with NSFC and submit payment for the following year.
Any player unable to attend this camp must notify the Evaluations Director via his AGC prior to the Camp specifying the reason for his absence. His final ranking will be based on the results from his U10 Player Evaluation Camp. If a player is unable to attend any Evaluation Camp, he must notify the Evaluations Director via his AGC prior to the camp specifying the reason for his absence. An injured player who is not fit to attend any Evaluation Camps will be placed on the Injured Reserve List until he is fit to be evaluated.
Teams will be formed based on community, however, if at all possible, only one Streamed Team Ranking Camp will be held to ensure that all players are evaluated equally. If, due to player numbers, more than one camp is necessary, all camps will be of the same format, and if at all possible, use the same evaluators.
Coaches:
Coaches will apply to NSFC Coaching Committee and be assigned to teams by the NSFC Board at the end of Phase Two – Streamed Team Ranking Camp
Goal Keepers:
No Goal Keepers are selected as all players are expected to play in goal. During evaluation process, players can volunteer to play goal and be scored on their defensive abilities.
Team Formation
Players’ rankings will be determined or based on the cumulative or aggregate of the players’ evaluations submitted over the 2 Evaluation Camps. A list is prepared, sorted by highest to lowest score.
Number of Teams:
NSFC Board of Directors will determine the number of streamed teams to be formed for each community for each season.
Team size:
- recommend 13 players, but 14 can be taken at coach’s discretion
Player Placement:
Players will be placed on community based teams. Teams will be balanced when there is more than one community team.
Players are placed on teams as follows:
Assuming 3 teams: Team X, Team Y and Team Z
Players ranked 1 (highest score) to 45
- Round 1:
- Team X – player 1
- Team Y – player 2
- Team Z - player 3
- Round 2:
- Team Z – player 4
- Team Y – player 5
- Team X – player 6
- Round 3:
- Team X – player 7
- Team Y – player 8
- Team Z – player9
- Etc until a minimum of 13 and a maximum of 14 players are placed on each Streamed Team.
As a coach’s son comes up, he becomes his team’s “pick” for the current round.
Remaining Players:
Players not placed on a Streamed Team will be placed on the Streamed Team Alternate List for their community and return to the roster of their previous team.
