Policy Statement
The club adopts the principles of the RYA Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy 2013 to safeguard children and young people taking part in boating from physical, sexual or emotional harm. To take all reasonable steps to ensure that, through appropriate procedures and training, children participating in club activities do so in a safe environment. The club will recognize that the safety and welfare of the child is paramount and that all children, whatever their age, gender, disability, culture, ethnic origin, colour, religion or beliefs, social status or sexual identity, have a right to protection from abuse.

The Club will
Recognize that anyone under the age of 18 is considered as a child for the purposes below, treating them with respect and celebrating their achievements.
Carefully recruit and select all instructors and volunteers using the newDisclosure and Disbarring Service replacing the Enhanced Criminal Records Disclosure process and to raise their awareness to recognize child abuse and ensure they follow the RYA Guidelines.
Respond swiftly and appropriately to all complaints and concerns about poor practice or suspected/actual child abuse by contacting the Club Welfare Officer: Ms Gill Bailey Tel: 01297 489246

Gain parental/guardianship consent regarding all forms of photographyfrom events or training sessions.

Inform Youth members and parents of the requirement to wear personal buoyancy at all times when on the water, and wetsuits and/or dry suits are recommended (compulsory between 1Nov and 30April) (LRSC Safety Policy 2013)
Inform Youthmembers and parents of the essential requirement of signing in and signing out to indicate they have returned to shore.

Any member of the Club or visitor failing to comply with the Child Protection Policy and any relevant Codes of Conduct may be subject to disciplinary action under Club rules. LRSC Ltd Club Rules 2012 No 9

Adults are requested as good practice not to enter the showers and changing rooms at times when children are changing before/after junior/youth training or racing. If this is unavoidable it is advised they are accompanied by another adult.
