Lyford High School November 2012 Scholarship Bulletin

Scholarship Application Directions: Applying for scholarships is the responsibility of the students (i.e. meeting deadlines, completing required paperwork, requesting transcripts, etc.)

Application: The LHS scholarship bulletin is updated monthly to provide students with the criteria and online application links. Students may pick up a bulletin or a scholarship application before/after school or during lunch. Read the application and determine the requirements. Type the application and/or neatly complete the application in black ink only. Many College and University scholarships are available on the www.applytexas.org web site.

Transcript: Scholarships which require a transcript must be requested from the registrar’s office at least two (2) days prior to the deadline. It is the responsibility of the student to request your official transcript from the Registrar, Yvette Mendoza. Late requests may not be processed in time, plan accordingly.

Essay Type: The essay(s); Run a spell check, check for grammatical errors, and have someone proofread it.

Letters of Recommendation: It is the student’s responsibility to ask teachers, counselors, administrators, and/or people in the community for a recommendation letter. Give your references no less than 7 days to write a quality letter. Provide information to your recommender listing your accomplishments, such as a resume.

Deadlines: Strictly adhered to by the scholarship committees. Deadlines are noted as either “postmarked” or received by dates. Students are responsible for mailing application by required deadlines unless otherwise noted in the instructions. Scholarships applications, which are to be submitted to Mrs. Rincones in the counseling office, must be received by 10:30 a.m. on due date. Keep all the documents together to be mailed or submitted. In a large yellow envelope, place the application, official transcript, essay(s), resume, and letters of recommendation. Remember, each scholarship has its own requirements; late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
