LA VENTANA CLASSIC AND KITEXPO 2011

THE CAUSE: -
Helping our local schools in the small Baja community of La Ventana and El Sargento. All money beyond the costs of running the event will go directly to projects to improve our schools – Last year we had 16 top kite companies at the expo, 120 riders in the event, and raised $22,230 USD. That money has already been utilized and the following ptojects have been finished . La Ventana Kindergarten – shaded waiting area built for parents, bathroom remodel, Air conditioning installed
La Ventana Primary School – paint job for the entire school, computer and laser printerinstalled
El Sargento Jr High – 2 AC units installed in classrooms, computer installed
El Sargento Kindergarten – entire fence around school redone at foundation, bathrooms remodeld
Community Health Center – medical supplies, tools, and shelving purchased and installed
Baja Paws (run by Baja Joes)– funding given for the spay and neutering of 10 local dogs or cats
And we are currently working on
El Sargento Primary School – Library remodel in progress
.This year we hope to do even more!!
THE 2010 DATES:

Jan 20-Jan 23 Main Event – 4 days of fun for a great cause!
THE EVENT:
The event is organized by Tim Hatler of Palapas Ventana resort and Marina Chang of The KiteBoarder Magazine. The event takes place in La Ventana, Baja Mexico – 35 minutes from the La Paz Airport and 2.5 hours from the Cabo Airport. The event includes an 11 mile island crossing Kiteboard and Windsurf race, course racing finals, an 11 mile island crossing SUP Race, a 4 mile downwinder and 2 mile SUP race, SUP relay races, big air and old skool trick competitions, and a 4 day expo of Kite and SUP gear. In addition, there are beach parties, bands, food sales, dance presentations by local schools, and an awards party. The event will once again be MC’d by Kiteboard Icon Neil Hutchinson of Xrated KiteBoarding. This year’s event will be the 6th annual La Ventana Classic
THE RACES:
11.5 mile downwind sprint from Cerralvo Island to La Ventana.
Pangas transport competitors to offshore Cerralvo Island and they race back to the La Ventana shore
Course racing finals
Top finishers from the crossing go into short course racing finals
Big Air / Old Skool Trick contests, go big or go home --right over the crowd
SUP Paddle Royale – get a ride to the island and race back for great prizes and cash. Also a 5 mile downwinder and short Stand Up Paddle races.
THE EXPO:
Each sponsor will be assigned an area on the event beach to display and demo gear to the public.1ST sponsors to pay will get first choice of beach sites. There are no sales during the expo.
