Dear business owner

London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games – Torch Relay in Slough

On Tuesday 10 July 2012, the Olympic Flame will be coming through the streets of Slough on its 8,000 mile journey around the UK before it arrives at the Olympic Stadium on 27 July 2012.

Back in November 2011 we were told the Olympic Flame would be coming to Slough and the exact route would be confirmed at a later date. Last month the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games told us the exact route.

As you may already know, the Olympic Flame will enter Slough at approximately 12.25pm at Huntercombe Lane, go down the Bath Road until it reaches Tuns Lane, turning right through Church Street into Chalvey Road West, then into Ragstone Road and out of the borough at approximately 2.10pm.

Given that the Flame will be visible to the public through most of its journey through Slough, we are certain residents, schools and workers will take this once in a lifetime opportunity to line the streets and witness the spectacle of the Olympic Torch Relay going through their communities.

The arrival of the Flame will have a huge impact on traffic in the area and the council together with Thames Valley Police and the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games have been planning for the event since last year.

We hope businesses in Slough, especially those located on the route, are also planning to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum.

Businesses might want to think about:

  • changing delivery times so they do not clash with the arrival of the Torch Relay
  • advising staff and visitors on travel arrangements
  • advising staff on opportunities to line the streets to see the Torch Relay

The street-by-street detail and proposed start times for when the Olympic Flame will travel through Sloughare available in full at www.slough.gov.uk/london2012.

Slough Borough Council hopes to deliver an Olympic Torch Relay Slough can be proud of – we hope local businesses will work with us and help make it Slough’s moment to shine.
