If you have a learners permit to drive then you must drive with an adult.

If you go to Belk, then you can buy the expensive jacket.

8)  If you want to be independent, then you should have your own car.

If you have your own car, then you have to pay for the insurance.

If you have to pay for the insurance, you will need a job.

9)  If you watch too much TV, then you will find it hard to think on your own.

If you don’t have much imagination, then you find it hard to think on your own.

If you read a lot, then you don’t have time for TV.

10) If you don’t try your best, you will never know what you’re capable of.

If you never know what you’re capable of, you may become unhappy with your job.

If you become unhappy with your job, you may not please your boss.

If you don’t please your boss, you may get fired.

If you get fired, then you will have to look for another job.

If you have to look for another job, then you better have good references.

Logical Sentences- Law of Detachment and Contrapositives

Detachment:

If the sentence is ONLY the first part of the original, then complete it for a valid conclusion.

Contrapositive:
If the sentence is the opposite of the last part, write the opposite of the first part.

ALL OTHER FORMS ARE INVALID WRITE “NO CONCLUSION

Example: If it’s a dog then it has 4 legs.

a)  Spot has 4 legs. No conclusion- matches the conclusion

b)  Lester is not a dog. No conclusion - Opposite of hypothesis

c)  Lucky has 6 legs. So Lucky is not a dog. Opposite of Hypothesis (Contrapositive Law)

d)  Ralph is a dog. So Ralph has 4 legs ( Law of Detachment)

2)  If it’s a fish then it can swim.

a)  Bob is a fish.

b)  Lucy can’t swim.

c)  Pat is not a fish.

d)  Dan can swim.

3)  If it’s vertical then it’s congruent.

a)  < A and < B are not congruent

b)  < C and < D are vertical

c)  < E and < F are congruent

d)  < G and <H are not vertical

e)  < A and < C are complementary

f)  < D = < E

4)  If it’s not yours then leave it alone!

a)  Bob left it alone.
