Post:DIRECTOR OF development

Location:The High School of Dundee

Salary:£50,000 to £60,000 (Depending on experience) plus a generousbenefits package

The High School of Dundee is one of Scotland’s leading independent schools and is among the oldest in the United Kingdom. It is the largest independent school in Tayside and Fife and its academic record in public exams places the school firmly in the top ten schools in Scotland. It is the only independent school in Dundee and is situated in the heart of the City in buildings dating back to 1834.

Alongside a respect for traditional values and the pursuit of excellence, the High School also looks to innovate and move forward. In recent years there has been major development and expansion of the School’s facilities with an increase in the number of classrooms and laboratories as well as social areas for pupils. This year the school is implementing the plan to roll out iPads to pupils across the school to enhance learning and teaching.

In addition, the School places strong emphasis on co-curricular activities. Sport, music, debating and drama are particularly strong as are the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and the School’s CCF.

In support of this, a new £3 million Sports Centre was opened in 2006 and in 2012, two synthetic pitches of international standard were opened, involving an investment of £1.6 million. Exciting new strategic plans for the future are now in place for development of the former Head Post Office Building in Dundee, purchased earlier this year, into a Centre of Excellence for the Performing and Visual Arts, housing music, drama and art and design.

In order to support and sustain these and future projects we are seeking to appoint an ambitious and exceptional fundraiser to the role of Director of Development.

Reporting to the Rector and being a member of the school’s Senior Management Team, the Director of Development will manage the operations of the school Foundation by delivering a clearly defined fundraising strategy to ensure sustainable levels of income across all areas of fundraising that are designed to meet the needs and aims of the school.

He/she will provide strategic direction and support to the Trustees in their capital and bursary fundraising programmes and will manage and provide leadership of the Development department’s alumni relations and communications programme.

We are looking for an ambitious and successful individual with significant experience and a proven record in fundraising, able to understand and communicate philanthropic visions both at the highest level of institutional management but also to potential supporters of the school. You will have excellent communications and strong creative writing skills and be able to demonstrate significant success in building relationships and securing major gifts across all income streams.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or similar and ideally have a recognised professional fundraising qualification. Preferably, you will have experience, or at least an understanding of, and belief in, the aims and ethos of independent education in general and HSD in particular.
