PRELIMINARY MATTERS

The public may comment about any items not on the agenda. Public comment regarding agenda items will be heard while the board is discussing the item.

  1. REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 7 MEETING.
  2. REPORT FROM SECRETARY. The secretary will update on the status of pending contracts with Livable Berkeley for fiscal agent services and with the Downtown Berkeley Association for tree watering. He will also report on efforts by Dan Gallagher, City Arborist, to plant trees in the two blocks of Solano where the businesses are in Berkeley but the sidewalk is in Albany.

ACTION ITEMS

  1. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES OR SERVICES BY THE SOLANO BID. The BID has discussed various possible activities, including installing tree grates (probably now impossible because of the irregular size of the tree wells); helping to finance pedestrian lights; and completing a streetscape plan (that would potentially allow Solano access to grant funding for major improvements.) It has also set aside some money for promoting the district. The Board should give some direction to staff on what activities or services it wants to pursue next.
  1. COMPLAINTS FROM THERAPISTS AND OTHERS WHO ARE ASSESSED BUT DO NOT REGARD THEMSELVES AS SOLANO BUSINESSES. The Secretary has received several emails and phone calls from therapists in buildings on Alameda who do not feel they should be assessed. The Board may want to consider recommending a change in the boundaries of the district or reduction of rates for these businesses.
