Using the CBR

Loading and running RANGER for the TI-83 Plus

1.  Connect the CBR to the TI-83 Plus using the long black cable. Make sure that the jack plugs at each end of the cable are pushed as far they can go into the I/O port at the bottom of the TI-83 Plus and into the small hole at the side of the CBR.

2.  Press the blue APPS key to get the APPLICATIONS menu.

3.  Either use the blue cursor down button [ê] to highlight the CBL/CBR app. and press ENTER - or just press the white 2 key.

4.  The screen shows the CBL/CBR "welcome" page - now press any key.

5.  This gives the CBL/CBR APP menu . Select the option 3: RANGER either by using the arrow keys and pressing ENTER or by pressing 3.

6.  The screen shows the RANGER "welcome" page - now press ENTER.

7.  Now you are in the MAIN MENU and are ready to use the CBR.

Using the CBR to capture distance-time graphs in real time

1.  From the MAIN MENU select 1:SETUP/SAMPLE.

2.  To change any of the settings cursor down or up to the relevant line and press ENTER. This will change the setting. Except for TIME(S), repeatedly pressing ENTER will cycle you through the possible alternatives. Selecting REALTIME: YES automatically sets the TIME(S) to 15.

3.  When your screen shows the same settings as above, then cursor up to the top of the display so that the arrow points to START NOW and press ENTER.

4.  Position the CBR so that someone can walk up and down in front of it. When ready, press ENTER and the green light on the CBR will start to flash as it records samples. As you move up and down in front of the CBR so the points corresponding to your distance from the CBR at each time are shown on a graph.

5.  Now you can move the cursor along the curve using the left and right blue arrow keys, and take readings from the sampled points. (Note: although the display shows the graph as continuous, the data were actually recorded discretely.)

6.  Pressing the ENTER key takes you into a menu where you can work further on this data, or collect another set of data using the same settings, or return to the main menu.
