Organisation Location: Wales
The Organisation
With 470 branches throughout Wales and the South West, Lloyds Bank Wales & West Region employs some 7,000 people in the provision of retail financial and banking services.
The Challenge
The bank believed that the success of the business would only be achieved through the success of the bank's people. To achieve this aim it was necessary to scrutinise activities in four key areas:
· communicating business aims and objectives
· aligning training and development activities to business needs
· increasing awareness of personal responsibility for development
· evaluating all training and development programmes.
The Strategy
The principal elements of the strategy were:
· better training preparation and follow-up through the use of a 'making the most of training and development' process
· increase the number of open learning centres in use from 38 to 74
· encouragement and support to help staff achieve a professional qualification
· formal training plans.
The Result
A recently conducted employee attitude survey has shown dramatic increases in the positive attitudes that staff have towards the bank and their career opportunities.
