Living With Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Relaxation Hypnosis Script
Begin with your favourite Induction and Deepener from Hypnotic World.
As you drift deeper into this comfortable state of hypnosis, I am going to be talking to you about a problem you have been experiencing - and that is, irritable bowel syndrome.
In order to help your body to relieve the symptoms that you have been experiencing - I would like you to use your wonderful, creative, subconscious mind to visualize the images I will be suggesting.
And I'd like you to use the creative part of your mind to the very best of your ability - and even if you are unable to clearly see certain images in your mind - know that there is a very special part of your memory that remembers and understands exactly what is being said.
And perhaps you can bring into mind, other senses such as sound or smell or even tactile recollections and use these instead - or as well.
Just use whatever works well for you - because together - you and your wonderful subconscious mind are united in your desire and your determination to overcome those symptoms that have been preventing you from living a happy and fulfilling life.
And I would like you to visualize the muscles of your abdomen - noticing how they appear to you when you are suffering from the symptoms of IBS.
How do you see them in your mind's eye?
Perhaps they appear tight and constricted - and if so - see those muscles now - easing, slowly relaxing and beginning to feel just a little bit more comfortable - a little bit more relaxed and at ease.
Maybe you can imagine a tight knot that is beginning to loosen, gradually easing, gently relaxing, as it becomes even more comfortable, and you call actually feel that comfort increasing as the knot begins to work loose, more and more, easing - as it gently releases any tension there.
I will be quiet for a few moments as you experience this now, as your abdomen muscles relax and comfort returns.
Short pause.
That's good.
Or perhaps your symptoms are expressed as rumbles of thunder on a hot, sultry summer night after several days of experiencing a heat wave?
I'm sure you can remember the sort of night I mean - where there is little air and no matter what you do you just cannot feel comfortable - instead you are sticky and restless and wish for rain to come and clear the air.
And in the distance your rumble of thunder is heard and the sky becomes heavy and dark.
You know that those rumbles will subside over time, and in hypnosis you are the master of time - an hour can seem to pass like a second or two - as those rumbles begin to fade into the distant sky.
Allow those rumbles subside to subside now - let them go - let them fade and drift further and further and further away - and as they do, so do your symptoms of irritable bowel fade swiftly and easily away.
Or you may find that warmth brings relief to you?
If so, imagine that you are warming your right hand by a blazing log fire - and experience and feel the heat in the palm of that right hand - feel it becoming warmer and warmer - maybe you even experience a tingling sensation there?
And when you can really feel the warmth in that right hand, let it lift, slowly and easily, bring it up now as though it is weightless - perhaps feeling like an astronaut in a zero gravity spacecraft - floating - rising above the surface of the ground.
And now rest that right hand on the part of your body that most needs to feel that warmth - that comfort and heat - in order to heal.
As you do this, you are pleasantly surprised to notice that you can actually transfer the heat from that right hand into the area where you instinctively know that the warmth is needed most - the part of you that will benefit from this lovely warm feeling.
Just experience this now as I speak - this lovely warm and comfortable feeling - and feel it spreading to the area of your body that really appreciates this wonderful feeling - and as this part of your body becomes warm, so you discover that your old symptoms just disappear.
Maybe you feel anxious at times at going to different places in case you are unable to locate the lavatory - should you need it?
If so, know that you can simply relax your mind by counting - one, two, three, and be reassured that that you are safe and have total control.
Your body will always wait until the time and the place are right for you.
Do this now - count in your mind - one - two - three - and at the count of three just let any anxious thoughts drop right out of your mind - and know that you're safe and comfortable - your body will always wait until the time and the place are right for you.
If you notice yourself feeling stressed at any time, you can take yourself - in your wonderful, creative imagination to a favorite place - you can visit anywhere that is special to you.
Perhaps you will chose a warm, sunny beach with gentle waves splashing up to the shore - the grainy texture of warm, soft sand beneath your bare feet and the sun shining down on your body.
Or maybe you would prefer to gently rock in a hammock - in a beautiful scented garden and notice the trees and the colors and heady perfume of the pretty flowers around you, as you rock - back and forth - or side to side - enjoy the peace and tranquility of your own private garden.
You may prefer to be out exploring the countryside - enjoying the various hues of green in nature - the hills or mountains, lakes or rivers, running streams, picturesque farms or buildings in the distant and beauty that seems to go on forever.
Or you could find yourself lazing on a comfortable boat on a still, still, lake - allowing someone else to do the hard work as you lie back and relax - relax - relax.
Just choose a place that is special to you, for this is your own, private place where no-one can intrude uninvited because it belongs to you - and to you alone - and relax, and let go, going deeper and deeper down and down into gentle, hypnotic rest.
Now - if you're bodily symptoms are somewhat different or extra to the ones that I have already described, you can be assured that your wonderful creative subconscious mind can help you now by providing the images that bring comfort and relief to you.
I will be quiet for a few moments to allow that special part of you - the creative - dreaming part of your subconscious mind to bring about the relief and comfort that your body seeks.
You find that by using these techniques any time you notice those old symptoms returning - any old discomfort soon eases away - leaving your body feeling refreshed and healthy and calm and so much better than you ever thought possible.
And the more often this comfort replaces your old symptoms, the less you experience IBS - and soon, much sooner than you anticipated or hoped - this relief becomes a normal part of your life.
And every day you feel better and better - your health is improving and your mind and body returning to a more harmonious state.
You become calmer and happier, knowing that you are in control - and even your confidence is improving in so many areas of your life.
You find that the more you use the techniques outlined in this hypnosis session - the easier and quicker they begin to take effect.
You may even be surprised to discover - many months from now - that looking back on this period of your life - it is difficult to recall those old symptoms at all - for they have become part of the past - an unwanted and discarded response pattern that no longer exists.
And these suggestions are firmly embedded in your subconscious mind - and grow stronger and stronger day by day. They grow stronger by the day, stronger by the hour, stronger by the minute.
In a moment I'm going to count the numbers from one to five - and at the count of five you will be wide awake, with beautiful feelings running through your body, calm and peaceful thoughts flowing through your mind.
One - two - three - coming slowly back - four - eyelids beginning to flutter - and five - eyes open - wide awake - mind and body returning to normal conscious awareness.
