Ruzomberok

The town Ruzomberok is situated at the junction of the rivers Vah and Revúca. The first town privileges received in 1318 and in 1340 the town received the royal privilege document by a King Charles Robert.

Liptov Museum Ruzomberok

The Liptov Museum was founded as an institution of Liptov Museum Society in 1912. In 1921 it was taken over as a public cultural institution by the town Ruzomberok under the name The Liptov Museum. Since 1937 it has its headquarters in a building constructed by the town municipally according to projects by V.Donner. In 1974, the museum was affiliated with the Ethnography Museum at Liptovský Hrádok. Since its origins, the museum has the character of a homeland museum with the collection area in the Liptov region.

Open to the public are open-air exhibitions, then exhibitions of archaeology, history, ethnography, paper-making in Slovakia, as also one of the life and work of Andrej Hlinka. All are installed in the museum's principal building.

The Liptov Museum at Ruzomberok also owns the building The Black Eagle (Čierny orol) at Liptovský Mikuláš - a national cultural monument - and a farmstead at Bukovina - a cultural monument.

Gallery of Ľ. Fulla in Ružomberok

The Gallery was built to deposit and exhibit works of art presented to the Slovak National Gallery by Ľudovít Fulla (1902-1980), one of the most distinguished Slovak artists, whose work was closely linked to modern European art streams. This versatile and gifted artist, painter, graphic artist, illustrator, creator of large decorative works, set designer and teacher spent the last two years of his life in that house. The project of the house, made by the architect Š.Hatala, was designed by M.Kusý (1964-1965). The Gallery opened in 1969.

The visitors can see the permanent exhibition of painting, graphic art, drawing, illustration, tapestries and exhibits of applied arts. The artist's studio and his study are also open to the public. Temporary exhibitions and annual art shows of works of laureates of the Ľ.Fulla Prize and of the Ľ.Fulla Scholarship are organized here by the Slovak National Gallery. Besides, the Gallery offers its visitors programmes on the artist's life and work, concerts of classical music and cultural programmes for a wide public. The Gallery provides guided tours and sells catalogues, posters and postcards.

The Square of Andrej Hlinka

The historical square of Ružomberok, the former Market square, is named after Andrej Hlinka, important Slovak politician of first half on 20th century who was born and lived in Ružomberok.

The word “ruža” in Slovak means rose. The name of the city Ruzomberok originated from a legend. During a hunt an young man aimed at a red rose with his crossbow and as he shot, he hit not only the rose but also the heart of his own bride.

Vlkolínec

The former village of Vlkolínec is today officially part of the city of Ruzomberok. The whole village consists of more then 40 pre served wooden houses without any interference of modern architecture. Majority of them is still inhabited. Vlkolínec was inscribed in 1993 into UNESCO World Heritage list.

Roľnícky dom Vlkolínec

The building is one of a set of two and three-room logwood houses, typical construction of regional architecture in the northern past of Central Slovakia. The three-room farmstead No.15 dates from 1886. The preserved interior furnishing and the overall division of the house provide an image of the way of life of the inhabitants in the first decades of the 20th century. The village Vlkolínec has been included in the World's cultural heritage list of UNESCO.

Ski Park

Only two kilometers from city center you can enjoy the ski resort Skipark Ruzomberok. The total capacity of ski lifts is 5800 persons per hour and total length is 4970 meters. The longest ski track is 3900 meters, but you can start with the one which is only 130 meters short. The season is usually from December until April.

Bešeňová

Just 12km to east from Ruzomberok in the village of Bešeňová, you can enjoy hot springs. Even the water from deep spring is as much as 61 C hot; the temperature of water in pools is regulated between 26 C and 38 C. The service is year-around and there is not a better relax after whole day of skiing then the hot water - cold snow combination. The water is of mineral origin and has healing effects on motion, breathing and uric medical problems.

Ružomberok Night Life

Ruzomberok disco clubs have usually open at 6 PM on Friday and Saturday evenings. Clubs get crowded around 9.30 PM and it last so until 1 AM.
