Lion King Costume Ideas
General Costume Notes: In general, costuming needs to be secondary to acting and singing. It needs to add to the musical story and not distract. Tunics are an easy and effective foundation to a great costume! For a base tunic all you need is a piece of material long enough to cover front and back and another strip to tie in the middle. Fold it exactly in half and cut a semi-circle on the fold to go over the head. Voila! Also, these are easy to coordinate color schemes.
For Example:
Characters will be specific to the character, but in general all lioncharacters will have a soft tan or amber tunic
Hyenas and Scar will have a darker gray tunic
Villagers Chorus will be bright and happy with African patterning
Elephant Graveyard Chorus will be gray or black base tunic
Jungle Chorus will have a greenbase tunic
Animal Chorus will match the pattern/color of the animal they chose

Zazu- Zazu’s costume is part of the Bird puppet with Fancy personality! The base needs to match the bird puppet. I will have specific instructions for the bird Zazu.
TimonPumba – Timon and Pumbaa can be full body costumes or masks. These two guys need to get with me so we can decide.
HyenasThe easiest Hyena costume is to find a solid gray hoodie and attach accessories as seen below. Mohawk style fabric for hair and some creative ears w/ Black felt spots glued. Big Yellow Eyes and jagged teeth add a nice touch of personality and color!
Villager Chorus
These are the types of patterns we are looking for in the Villagers chorus and the drum chorus but as a tunic.
Elephant Graveyard Chorus will be gray or black base tunicThey will have choreography with white bones so their tunic needs to contrast with the bones. They will also execute the stampede scene.
Jungle Chorus will have a greenbase tunic with leaves and bright pink, yellow flowers to make it fun!
Animal Chorus will match the pattern/color of the animal they chose
