Practices and Meetings:

Before you will be allowed to practice, you must have a current physical and insurance form in the office. Before the end of the first week of practice, you must also have a signed parental consent form to play. Finally, before the first game, you must have paid the sports participation fee of $30.00. Talk to a coach if any of those will be a problem.

Don’t miss a practice or a meeting. If you are too sick to come, please notify a coach. If you skip a practice, you will have extra conditioning on your return. If you skip two, you will be dismissed from the team. Participation in a practice or a game requires school attendance on that day. Exceptions must be approved by the Principal.

For practice, you need black shorts, socks, basketball shoes worn only inside, towel, and a practice jersey.

When you walk out onto the court for practice, you should be physically and mentally ready for practice. Don’t come out to put on your shoes and talk, come out ready to go to work.

Do your best to maintain a positive attitude in practice.

When a coach is talking, you should not be talking.

When the coach blows the whistle, all the balls stop bouncing and play stops to hear what is going to be said.

Inform a coach of any injury, and treat it until the coach tells you to stop. If you are injured, you are still expected to be present at practice, unless you are receiving treatment for an injury. Serious injuries will require a physician’s release in order for the athlete to practice and/or play.

In order to participate in practice and games, you must maintain ACADEMIC STANDARDS and comply with school rules for student behavior. Positive practices: receive one and you will do extra conditioning, receive two and you will sit out a half, receive three and you will sit out a game, receive more than 3 and you will be dismissed. Ineligibility: the first two times will result in extra conditioning, the third time will result in dismissal from the team.

Coaches will be treated with respect and talking back to a coach will not be tolerated. Failure to follow this rule will result in extra conditioning and possible removal from the team.

The use of foul language will not be tolerated in practices and games. Failure to follow this rule will result in extra conditioning and possible removal from the team.

WE PRACTICE FOR ONE REASON: TO GET BETTER. Do your best to be a better player at the end of each practice.

If for any reason you or your parents need to visit with a coach, you will need to make arrangements to do so after a practice, not after a game. Playing time is not somewhat that will be discussed. The coaches will play those players that they feel deserve the time. It is our hope that all players will play; however, we reserve the right to determine who plays. WE WOULD BE HAPPY TO DISCUSS THE PROGRES OF YOUR SON. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL COACHES DISCUSS ANY OTHER PLAYER WITH A PARENT.

Games

The team rides to games as a team and returns home as a team. A student may return home from a basketball game with his parents in the following cases:

There is a savings in mileage

There is some infrequent special event or reason

There is face-to-face contact with the Head Coach. A signature will be required before a student may leave with his parent(s)

NO student will be allowed to ride with any adult other than his parent unless special situations have been cleared through the office by noon prior to the event

During games, all officials and opposing team members will be treated with respect.

Officials will always be addressed as “Sir” or “Ma’am.”

Always say thank you when you receive the ball from an official

Always hand the ball to an official, never toss it. If the ball is out of bounds away from an official, run to get it

Respect the players and coaches from other schools

If a player/coach gets a technical foul during the game, you will be sitting out a half and conditioning will follow.

School Rules

Any student athlete that is caught using ALCOHOL OR DRUGS by a law enforcement official, any school official at school or at a school-sponsored function, or by any member of the coaching staff at any time will be suspended from the seasonal sport for the duration of that sport’s season.

Any student athlete that is caught SMOKING OR CHEWING TOBACCO by a law enforcement official, any school official at school or at a school-sponsored function, or by any member of the coaching staff will be suspended from the seasonal sport for the duration of that sport’s season.

Hopefully you have come out for basketball because you enjoy the sport. However, being a part of a basketball team should be more than just a sport. It should be a life experience as well. You learn how to improve yourself, and how to work with others towards a common goal.

A student who is under penalty of suspension or whose character or conduct brings discredit to the school or to the student, as determined by the principal, is not in good standing and is ineligible for a period of time as specified by the principal.
