Biographical Information

Lindsay-Ann Kelland received her doctoral degree in Philosophy from Rhodes University in 2012. Her PhD dissertation focused on providing an understanding of the harm of male-on-female rape in hetero-patriarchal societies. Her work since has primarily been situated in the fields of feminist philosophy, phenomenology, community engagement, transformation and agency and explores sexual and gender-based violence, unsupportable pregnancies and abortion, the menstruation-related challenges facing girls and women in South Africa, white South African identity and effective ethical agency. She currently works as a senior lecturer in the Allan Gray Centre for Leadership Ethics and is a 2015 recipient of the Vice Chancellor’s Distinguished Community Engagement award.
