Individual Therapy

Target Population: Individual treatment services are provided to clients of all ages for the following: Accent Modification, Aphasia, Apraxia, Aural Rehabilitation, Communication and/or Cognitive difficulties associated with brain injury, Language/Learning Disabilities, Specific Language Impairment, Speech-Sound Disorders, Social Skills/Pragmatic Language Difficulties, Stuttering and Voice Disorders.

Schedule: Sessions are scheduled for one hour at least twice weekly. Morning and afternoon appointments are available

Family Involvement: Family members are welcome to observe and/or participate in therapy sessions. Information regarding the therapy and specific skills practiced will be provided throughout the program.

Supervisors: Clinical faculty in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders. All clinical faculty are highly experienced and hold the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence.

Fee: $60 for one hour session

Social Skills Program

The social skills program is a unique collaborative venture between UNH’s Northeast Passage recreational therapy program and the UNH Speech-Language-Hearing Center (SLHC).

Target Population: Adolescents and elementary school-aged children with satisfactory speech/language development who are in need of improving social communication skills. Appropriate participants may have a diagnosis of Asperger’s syndrome, high functioning autism or nonverbal learning disability.

Schedule: Sessions will run for 2½ hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays;

9:30 AM to noon for the elementary age group,

1:00 PM – 3:30 PM for adolescents.

Format: We will address social skills within a group recreational context. Program activities will emphasize the team concept, sportsmanship and the development of lifetime leisure skills as the foundation for developing effective interpersonal communication abilities.

Family Involvement: Family members are welcome to observe program activities.

Supervisors: Jeanne O’Sullivan, CCC-SLP. Ms. O’Sullivan has over 30 years of experience working as a speech-language pathologist in a variety of settings.

Matthew Frye, CTRS/L. Mr. Frye is the program coordinator for the Therapeutic Recreation Empowering Kids (TREK) program at UNH’s Northeast Passage.

Program Fee: $650.00

Stuttering/ Fluency Programs

Target Population: Pending sufficient number of participants, the following group program will be offered this summer:

Primary level (Ages 4-7 years)

Please note that individual fluency therapy sessions are offered for clients of other ages.

Schedule: The program will run on Tuesday mornings for 3 hours (1 hour of individual and 2 hours group therapy).

Format: Activities will take place at the SLHC as well as locations across campus. Participants will have the opportunity for skill development and carryover of fluency while engaged in enjoyable hands on activities.

Family Involvement: Sessions for families will be an integral part of the fluency program. Family members will have opportunities to learn more about fluency and stuttering as well as how they might support their family members who stutter.

Supervisor: Sheryl Gottwald, CCC-SLP.

Dr. Gottwald holds specialty recognition in Fluency Disorders from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

The program fees for the summer programs represent a significant reduction from our per-session fees. These services are offered for a set program fee and no refunds will be given for missed sessions.

All services are provided by graduate student clinicians in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders under the supervision of state licensed and nationally certified clinical faculty.
