Life Changes Trust Bursary Scheme

2017/18

Application form for conferences/events taking place between September 2017 and August 2018

Introduction

The Life Changes Trust believes it is important that conferences and seminars about dementia are attended by people living with dementia and carers. This is why the Trust has funded a number of conference places to date and has written reports on how people have benefited from being at such conferences.

The Trust has decided to allocate a limited sum of money to fund attendance at conferences and other events in 2017/18. You can apply for a bursary if youlive in Scotland and are:

  • a person living with dementia
  • an unpaid carer of a person living with dementia
  • a former unpaid carer of a person living with dementia, who stopped providing unpaid care in the past 24 months

Conferences/events taking place in the United Kingdom

We will provide a bursary for you to attend:

  • as a delegate
  • as a speaker
  • to give a poster presentation

Conferences/events taking place in any other country

We will provide a bursary for you to attend:

  • as a speaker
  • to give a poster presentation

What can I apply for?

You can apply for any reasonable costs associated with attending the conference or event, including:

  • conference fees
  • travel
  • accommodation
  • food and drink
  • costs for a supporter, if you have dementia. He or she MUSTbe able to support you throughout the conference/event.

When are the deadlines?

There are three deadline dates:

  • Wednesday 21 June 2017
  • Wednesday 16 August 2017
  • Wednesday 6 December 2017

Where do I send my application?

You can post it to:

Am I guaranteed a bursary?

No. There is a limited amount of money and we may have to make difficult decisions about who receives a bursary and who does not. We also need to take account of practical considerations, for example, a person with dementia will usually need someone to attend an event with them so we will fund two people rather than just one.

When will I know if my application has been successful?

You will know no later than four weeks after the deadline date. For example, if you apply before the 21 June deadline you will hear from us no later than 19 July.

If you have been unsuccessful, you can apply again. The Life Changes Trust runs a number of free events for people with dementia and carers throughout the year - contact us for details. You can also sign up for our e-bulletin on our website, or phone and ask for a copy to be sent to you regularly (0141 212 9600).

What if I miss a deadline date?

We will let you know if your application arrives after a deadline date. You can apply again and make sure you meet the next deadline date. For example, if you miss the 21 June deadline you can apply again for the 16 August deadline.

Will you arrange things for me?

If it helps, we can book your place at the conference and your travel and accommodation. We will not accompany you to the conference and so it is your responsibility to ensure that you have someone to support you if this is what you need. You will need to arrange your own travel and health insurance.

Do I have to write a report or anything?

We will send a short questionnaire to everyone who receives a bursary so that they can give us feedback on the event they attended. If you would like to write a short report or send us photographs, we will be very happy to receive them!

If you would rather not write your feedback, we can have a phone call with you instead.

Can I receive more than one bursary per year?

No. We want to make sure that bursaries go to a wide number of people and not just a limited few again and again.

Does the conference/event have to be specific to dementia?

No. It just needs to be something that you think would be very helpful to you as someone who lives with dementia or as a carer.

Can I apply for a bursary for a training course?

No. These bursaries are to fund places at conferences or other events.

Who can I contact if I have more questions?

Contact Graham Hart at the Life Changes Trust on 0141 212 9616 or at .
