“WELCOME TO AVEDA INSTITUTE LAS VEGAS”

Becoming a licensed professional Cosmetologist requires only 1800 hours of training at Aveda Institute Las Vegas. That’s a relatively small investment in training time when you consider the long-term advantages of the career. The length of the course is not, however, the only thing to consider. There are many other factors to think about when you are trying to decide if cosmetology would be the best career for you. For instance, cosmetology is an industry that revolves around style and fashion. Do you enjoy styling your own hair and always looking your best? Do you find yourself noticing hairstyles on other people you meet, or even while you’re looking at magazines? Do you sometimes enjoy styling someone else’s hair, maybe a member of your family or a close friend? If you can answer yes to any of these questions, then cosmetology may be the right career for you.

Another vital factor to consider is physical health. Stylists usually work on an appointment schedule in a salon, and once their clientele is developed, their day is many times busy and hectic. Not only are they working with their hands and arms as they perform services on there clients, but they are also standing much of the day. It’s also essential that you consider your hand and eye coordination, as well as dexterity. Health, endurance, and energy level are very important to your success in the field of cosmetology.

Are all stylists created equal? All students here at the Institute receive the same quality training as they progress through our course, and yet, when surveyed, salon owners and other leaders in the industry agree that there are differences between a stylist that simply “holds a job in a salon,” and the especially successful stylist that becomes well known in their community, and achieves well above the average income levels. You might think that the difference between these stylists is their technical skill (their ability to perform cuts, perms and colors). Technical ability levels do vary some, but the real difference is the personality and attitude of the stylist! It’s the stylist that appears confident, friendly, and helpful, that seems to develop a loyal clientele much faster. Some things to consider: Do you enjoy meeting new people...do you smile easily...and is it fairly easy for you to talk with people you’ve just met? Did you realize that your “people skills” would account for well over 50% of your success? At Aveda Institute Las Vegas, we will spend a great deal of time helping you develop these skills. These classes will help you become more aware of yourself, your own personality traits, and what you will need to do to improve your ability to interact with everyone around you, to include co-workers and clients. With practice, you can achieve these stylist/client communication abilities that are so necessary in the salon. They can only be acquired if you sincerely apply yourself, because your attitude and personality truly come from within you, and only you can develop and improve them...to ensure your success, make it one of your major goals during the course!

Right from the beginning . . . you work on your own mannequin . . . with genuine human hair . . . comb, curl, cut and style . . . you’re learning right from the start by doing . . . putting to practice everything you’ve learned from the classroom demonstrations, lectures, films and other visual aids. Your fingers are growing more skilled, and every day the fun increases. You will use your mannequin often as you advance to working on live models. This is called the “clinic”, which provides you with hands-on-experience on men and women. Now you can go to work on every type and texture of hair. You’re increasing in skills, and becoming prepared to do hairstyling, permanent waving, hair coloring, haircutting, long hair, chemical straightening, quick service techniques and hair care.

For the Esthiology program learn the fundamentals of facial manipulations, equipment and plant aromaology™ as you study the related sciences of anatomy and histology, along with state safety requirements. Combining theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, this unit puts you on your way to a career in skin care.

Apply your knowledge through clinic experiences while you increase your understanding in the classroom. In this unit, you’ll refine your skills and gain the expertise you need to meet the Aveda Institute’s skin care and makeup service standards and state safety requirements.

Learn real-world strategies to get the job of your dreams, from interviewing to resume writing and beyond. Fine-tune your accuracy, concentration and speed. At this point, you’ll have the competency required from the skill certification examination, as well as the theoretical knowledge needed to pass the examination required by the State of Nevada. Now you’re ready to start your career in skin care.

You learn more than skill at Aveda Institute Las Vegas . . . you begin to feel comfortable and at ease in new situations. Learning is revealing and creative . . . join us!

A student may be individually counseled between grading periods, when it is determined that a problem exists concerning any of the above attributes.
