Letter to patients
General Practice has been under increasing pressures for a number of years and in order to continue to provide the same levels of service, while also ensuring our long-term survival, we have to evolve and changes have to be made.
As a result, Creffield Medical Group was created on 1st June 2017 following the merger of Creffield Medical Centre, North Hill Medical Group and Layer Road Surgery. The merged partnership now covers a large area of Colchester and provides a wide range of medical services for 31,000 patients.
In order to secure the future of General Practice locally the difficult decision has been made to close Layer Road Surgery on Friday 10th November 2017.
While we appreciate the concerns our patients may have about this decision, our commitment is to continue the ethos and ideals each surgery has always strived to achieve and we see this merger as a natural progression of like-minded cultures.
What does this mean for our patients?
As a patient at Layer Road Surgery, you will continue to have access to the same healthcare services as before, although they will now be provided from Creffield Medical Group locations, including Creffield Medical Centre, North Hill, West Bergholt and Nayland Surgeries.
An extended workforce will be available, with 7 partner GPs (owners of the practices), 15 salaried GPs, 6 Advanced Nurse Practitioners/Nurse Practitioners, 8 Nurses and 7 Healthcare Assistants. This means we are now able to offer our patients a comprehensive range of services which may not have previously been available – for example smoking cessation, contraceptive implants, coil fitting, minor surgery and Saturday morning appointments.
From Monday 13th November 2017 if you wish to make an appointment to see a GP/Nurse/Healthcare Assistant please telephone 01206 245700.
We will display posters at Layer Road Surgery and have leaflets available which contain a location map and contact details for Creffield Medical Centre. We will also have this information available on Layer Road’s website – If you are not able to get to the surgery or cannot access the internet please contact Layer Road surgery and we will send the details to you.
Creffield Medical Centre has onsite parking and street parking is available past the Pharmacy on Cavalry Road (it is permit parking only before and around the Pharmacy). If you feel access to one of our other sites will cause you difficulties, please write your concerns on one of our comments leaflets and place in the comments box in reception at Layer Road Surgery. Creffield Medical Group is a member of the ColTe Partnership comprising 10 surgeries in the Colchester and Tendring areas who are working closely together to ensure that GP services continue to be provided in the way our patients value, whilst achieving economies of scale to make us sustainable for the future.
