WORKSHOP PRESENTERS

1A: Danielle Cioffi -Bringing AC: C&C to life

Danielle brings a wealth of experience with teaching the Australian Curriculum to a practical workshop that showcases interesting and engaging approaches to teaching Civics and Citizenship. Currently based at Cedar College, she was lauded last year for her outstanding presentation using engaging APPS to support teaching and learning.

1B: Dr Mark Giancaspro - Social Media: a malaise for youth?

Dr Giancaspro lectures in Law at Adelaide University. His workshop will consider some of the emerging issues for youth whose primary form of communication is social media. Mark will highlight a couple of interesting cases that raise more questions than answers.

1C: Claire Victory - Youth Justice

Claire is currently a member of the Law Society of South Australia and practices in an area of law that sees her grapple with issues related to youth justice. In this workshop she will give consideration to the concept of justice and rights, responsibilities and issues facing youth entering the labour market, including protections in the workplace.

2A: Helen Douglas-Irving & Shelly Brown - Bringing the Australian Curriculum: History & Social Sciences to life

Helen brings a wealth of experience as a highly acclaimed teacher of History and with Shelly will showcase practical and engaging approaches for Year 7 developed by Shelly in giving consideration to how best to engage with the new Australian Curriculum.

2B: Janine Campbell-Let’s get quizzical

Janine is currently teaching at Eynesbury College. In this workshop she will present a hands-on approach to Quiz-based APPS teachers can use to heighten levels of learner engagement while at the same time, promote deeper understanding and retention of key chunks of knowledge.

2C: Australian Federal Police – ‘Thinkuknow’

A member of the Australian Federal Police will present a thought provoking session about cyber safety in the context of exponential growth in the use of social media and the traps that befall users.

3A: Garth Dodd - The Ins and Outs of the Parole Board.

Garth has extensive experience in SA Government across the Justice, Health and Education Portfolios. He was an inaugural Aboriginal Justice Officer for the Courts Administration Authority and has for many years been a part of both the Parole and Guardianship Boards. His workshop will provide insight into the workings of both and highlight a range of issues related to the treatment of young people within the justice system.

3B: Alex Ward – To claim or not to claim

Radio personality and experienced barrister Alex Ward provides an introspective look at some of the civil actions he manages in our courts. Always engaging, the session will provide great insight into what really happens in the civil domain via a few quirky examples.

3C: Dr Adam Webster – Mock referenda and plebiscites/Panel

Adam will present a simple, practical and highly engaging approach as to how to conduct referenda and plebiscites in the classroom. He is a senior lecturer in the University of Adelaide Law School and is very attuned to the needs of teachers.
