- Introduction concept: Dorothy had to “follow the yellow brick road” in order to get home. Along her way she made some friends but also encountered some enemies. They had to work on being good friends whom they could rely and trust on. The next 7 weeks we will be following our own Yellow Brick Road and trying to be better friends.

- 7 bricks on board: The Yellow Bricks of friendship are what will build the Yellow Brick Road. Allow students to take turns drawing and reading the cards to the group. Counselor elaborates on each Yellow Brick with examples of To Be a Friend…

- 1st brick: Have students come up with friendship qualities.

- Brainstorm good characteristics of what a friend is.

- Have students complete my characteristic sheet.

- Then have students fill out the speaker of the day sheet.

- For the ticket out the door:

- Give each student a “Yellow Brick.”

- Have students write one thing they learned about how to be a better friend or have better friends.
