LESSON: HISTORICAL FACEBOOK

Today you are going to create a Facebook page for a historical figure from Colonial America. (Could be adapted for any era of study)Please choose a figure we have discussed in class and create a page that includes all of the information about the historical figure including: home, personal information, interests/hobbies, religion, occupation, and any other evidence pertaining to the person. (Use the Internet to acquire information about your historical figure that you might have missing from your notes.)

Follow these steps:

  1. Log onto the Internet and go to facebook.com
  1. Fill in the following information under the “sign-up” section

*First name – of historical figure

*Last name – of historical figure

*E-mail – use your school e-mail address only

*Password – create a password you will remember!

*Birthday – use you historical figures birthday and month but YOUR birth year (the birthdays only go back to the year 1905)

* Click continue.

  1. Facebook will take you through a series of steps…Skip step 1 as we will add each other as friends after your pages are made.
  1. Step 2: enter OUR school in the high school row. If your historical figure went to college enter that under college attended. Enter the employer for your historical figure then click on Step 3.
  1. Step 3: adding a profile photo.
  2. Go to file and open a new tab.
  3. Find a picture of your figure by searching your person’s name on Google images.
  4. Choose an image and right click on the image.
  5. Click on “save image as” and save the image in pictures.
  6. Return to the Facebook tab and click on “upload a photo”
  7. Click browse and then click on your saved image and choose to upload.
  1. Click on your figure’s name in the top, right corner of the Facebook page.
  1. Click on “update info.” and add ALL of the information related to your historical figure. Have fun with this part and be creative!!
  1. I have attached an image of the page I created for John Winthrop.
  1. Once the pages are created we will friend one another and make posts based on what we know about our figures’ lives. We will also simulate conversations between our figures. For example: what type of conversation would John Winthrop (a puritan) have with William Penn (a Quaker)???
