As these verses begin, where is Jesus? ______What is He doing? ______
A common title given to the Messiah was "son of David." This would assume that the Messiah would be merely a man like David, consistent with their expectation of an earthly king to reestablish Israel.
Jesus then quotes David (Psa. 110:1) to show that the "son of David", the promised Messiah, was David's Lord. This is presented a little differently, and perhaps a little clearer in Matt. 22:41-44. Jesus was declaring the Messiah's deity and His own. Having been challenged on their misunderstandings, they had no answer. How were the people who observed this interchange reacting? ______
