Taking Command
As we begin the first chapter to Joshua, we have spent five weeks studying the events which have led to this moment. Our focus has been on what God is doing as He reveals His character, purposes and plans through the 600 years from Abraham to Joshua. Abraham's descendants were chosen for this specific reason. From Jacob they have grown into a mighty nation which God has made ready to carry out His promise to give them the land of Canaan and to make His name known in the place which He chooses.

Capital punishment is taught in Scripture, but it is administered under "case law" which changes (and continues to change) somewhat with time, usually decreasing the number of offenses for which it is applied.
