THIS WEEK
Theme: Me and my School
Language Arts: We continue to do shared reading and will learn the routines of Readers’ Workshop. We continue the handwriting/letter review and have started working on some guided writing assignments.
Math:We are beginning unit 2. We begin with using the number grid and the number line to count. We will also write important numbers and work on complements of 10. ( __+__=10). We will also start our first math fact, which is adding 1 to a number.
Social Studies: We continue with places and faces in our school. We will also learn about the American flag and rules of etiquette for the flag.

HOMEWORK
Homework will usually be in 3 subject areas: math, reading, and spelling.
Math:
This week: Homelinks2.1, 2.2
Homelinks are due the next day.
IXL: Each week, we will have some practice on ixl for homework. This week practice: B1, B2, F1, F2. To log in, go to The username is basically "s+student ID" for example s123456 and the password is "lnfi+first name" for example lnfipeter. I will receive an update2qq report on your child’s progress weekly. IXL also provides certificates for achievement for individual student and whole class effort.
Reading: Try to read 20 minutes every day with your child.
Spelling: Begins next weeks. I will send the list of words on Thursday with some suggestions for how to work on practicing the words.

iPads
We have started using our iPads this week working on IXL. For each unit, we will have some practice in the classroom to scaffold our learning. We will also be using an app called “Bitsboard,” which is good for in class vocabulary practice and spelling practice. We will get started on Seesawthis week, which will function largely as a portfolio of your child’s work. Look for the login info in your child’s folder this week.
