Leonard and Maggie Davis Scholarship

Christ United Methodist Church

Purpose:

To provide a lasting legacy for Leonard and Maggie Davis who were instrumental in the development and continuation of Christ United Methodist Church, Portage Ohio.

To provide financial assistance to youth who desire to continue their education through post-secondary education at a technical, 2-year or 4-year accredited institution.

Criteria For Selection

Applicant must:

  • Show need for financial assistance
  • Demonstrate desire to learn
  • Show involvement in extracurricular activities, community, church, volunteer activities, paid employment during high school or advanced program.
  • Plan to be a full-time student

First preference will be given to recipients residing in the 43451 zip code area. If they do not meet criteria,consideration may be given to those individuals in the Bowling Green, North Baltimore, Eastwood, Elmwood,or Otsego High School districts.

Recipients who have previously received the award can apply for renewal.

How to Apply:

  • Complete Scholarship application
  • Obtain two signed letters of reference from individuals of your choice (teachers, employers, adults associated with extracurricular or volunteer activity).
  • Submit official transcript for most recent year.
  • Submit all materials to Christ United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 301, Portage Ohio or delivered to the church by April 20.

Bassett, Matheny, Winton Scholarship

Purpose:

The Bassett, Matheny, Winton families have set up a scholarship fund to help youth prepare and be successful in life. These families have lost special family members and wish to honor them thru this memorial scholarship.

Guidelines:

  • Attending 4 year, 2 year or certification programs.
  • Graduating or graduated high school
  • Open to anyone with first preference to those with church affiliation
  • Shows ability to be successful
  • Shows volunteer, employment or/and leadership skills.

Applicants need only fill out Part 1, 4, and 6 of the application form for the Bassett, Matheny and Winton Scholarship.

Application form is located on the Church website and must be delivered to the Christ United Methodist Church at 301 West Main St. Portage Ohio by April 20 of the current year

Scholarship will be sent to the institution of higher learning.
