Good Luck!

Writing Assignment : Your work for Part I and Part II MUST be submitted in a composition notebook, similar to the one pictured on the left. Your entries may be handwritten, or typed and glued, on the appropriate pages. Either way, they should be neat and should show Lion’s pride in your work! To earn full credit for the summer reading assignment, you must complete Part I, Part II, (and Part III for Honors and Gifted only).

Composition Book Pages 1 and 2

Part I: For each of the ten essays you choose to read: write the title, the author’s name, and three to four sentences that offer a summary and brief personal response.

Composition Book Pages 3, 4, 5 (each paragraph must be on its own page)

Part II: Of the ten essays you read, choose one that is the most like you, one that is the least like you, and the one you think is the most well-written. For each of these three, write one paragraph explaining your selection and why/how. (You should end up with three separate paragraphs, each with a clear topic sentence, specific details from the article, and personal connections for support.)

(Honors/Gifted ONLY)

Part III: Select the text you wish to read from the list below. Then, complete a Major Works Data Sheet. You will need to fill the MWDS (Major Works Data Sheet) in electronically. This form will be available on the Leon High School website. Make sure that you also save your work in multiple locations (hard-drive, usb-drive, email to yourself, etc.). When you receive your www.turnitin.com account information at the start of the school year, you will submit your electronic copy to this source for official grading. Additionally, you must bring a printed copy of your MWDS with you on the first day of school.
