Lenten Worship
Lent is a more penitential season, as we reflect on our failures and sins and turn to God in repentance, seeking forgiveness. This is why, for example, we do not have flowers in the Church during Lent, and discourage elaborate parties and fundraising activities. In keeping with this more somber time, our services at 10:30 a.m. Sundays up to March 13 (5th Sunday in Lent) will be the form found beginning on
page 230 in The Book of Alternative Services. Much of this will be known to those familiar with The Book of Common Prayer, and uses the language of the Prayer Book. On Palm Sunday, March 20, we will return to the contemporary language services at 10:30.
On the 4th Sunday in Lent, March 7, our 10:30 service will be a special Mothering Sunday service, with flowers for children to give to their mothers, and a time of fellowship in the Parish Hall afterwards.

Confirmation
The date for Confirmation is scheduled for April 17th, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. We have 15 vibrant young people preparing for this event. This is important in their lives, and also in the lives of their families and our parish community. We need to uphold them in our prayers. To that end, I invite all parishioners to include the following in their daily prayer time:
Hear our prayer, loving God, for those who are shortly to be confirmed. Let this be, for each of them, no mere formal step. Give them a living faith in your Son, Jesus Christ, as their Redeemer and King, and grace to witness to him before other people; that, filled with his Spirit, and strengthened by the Bread of life, they may serve you faithfully all their days; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Food for Thought Project
The Conception Bay South Literacy Council, assisted by the Sunday School (and Confirmation Class) of St. John the Evangelist and in co-operation with the Conception Bay South/Paradise Community Food Sharing Association, is sponsoring its eighth annual “Food for Thought Project”. The purpose of this project is to encourage families to read with their children by providing gently-used children’s books to patrons of our local food bank. The project will run from February 14th until March 14th. Books should be appropriate for ages infant to twelve. There will be a book bin placed in the Parish Hall where families can drop off books on Sunday mornings.
