Highly innovative solar reactor concepts in industry

AEE INTEC

AEE – Institute for Sustainable Technologies (AEE INTEC) is an independent research association which was founded in 1988. Currently over 65 employees from 8 nations are working at AEE INTEC. Furthermore, the institute regularly awards dissertations, master theses and internships. The activities of AEE INTEC include:

  • fundamental as well as applied research
  • national and international R&D projects
  • cooperation with universities, technical colleges, other research facilities and industry

The three major departments of AEE INTEC are “Thermal Energy Technologies and Hybrid Systems”, “Buildings and Renovation” as well as “Industrial Processes and Energy Systems”.

Research Project

The master thesis is part of the ongoing research projectSolarReaktor. Solar reactors are highly innovative concepts for solar-supported industrial applications (fusion of process, solar supply, backup, storage and control). In an exploratory study, a newly conceived solar reactor concept is to be developed and its application potentials evaluated based on a comprehensive survey of processes, reactors and industrial sectors relevant for the supply of solar energy.

Outline of the Master Thesis

  • Survey and description of relevant industrial processes (thermal, thermochemical, photocatalytic, electrolytic) and current resp. innovative developments and concepts with special suitability for a solar energy supply
  • Survey and description of relevant and current resp. innovative reactor technologies with special suitability of a solar energy supply including description of already developed solar reactor concepts
  • Development of an evaluation matrix based on identified criteria for classifying and describing the processes and reactor technologies as well as energy supply requirements
  • Identification of industrial processes and reactors with a particularly high potential for the further development of solar reactor concepts on the basis of the outlined evaluation matrix

We expect…

  • Solution-oriented, creative, independent and reliable way of working
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics with specific expertise
  • Interest and enthusiasm for solar energy supply and industry
  • Desirable: knowledge in the field of process intensification

We offer...

  • Salaried Master thesis with close involvement in an ongoing research project
  • Support by experienced employees, competent technical support
  • Timeframe:Start April 18, duration about 6 months
