Lehigh County ENVIROTHON RULES and REGULATIONS

Eligibility Requirements

1. Team members must be enrolled in grade levels nine (9) through twelve (12) for high school or equivalent non-traditional school program ranking. Students can only participate in a maximum of four high school Envirothon events.

2. Each team or team member shall participate in only one county event per school year.

3. All members on a team must represent the same educational unit (public, private, parochial, non-traditional school).

4. High School teams must have five members.Teams with four or six members are invited to participate in the competition as an exhibition team. Any team moving on to the state competition must have five members. If an exhibition team wins the county event, they may add another student from the same high school who participated in the county Envirothon(but did not win)to the team so that there are five members. If they cannot find an additional team member, the second highest placing team will move on to the state competition.

5. Each county team will rotate AS A TEAM through the testing stations (Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Soil Land Use, Wildlife, and Current Issue).

6. Station leaders will provide instruction and proctor the tests.

7. Each station is 35 minutes long. The first 30 minutes will be used for testing, and the remaining 5 minutes will be used as a review period. The review period is a time when students may ask the station leaders the answers to questions they had trouble with.

8. Advisors are not permitted on the testing circuit with their team, but they may tour the testing circuit with another team.

8. Advisors will be given five minutes to look at each test in the presence of station leaders. They may not take the test with them, take notes or photos, or try to duplicate the tests in any way.

9. Any team, team member, or team advisor discovered on, near, or around the testing circuit before the competition begins shall be subject to disqualification.

9. Envirothon team members shall only use reference and resource materials provided by agency or Envirothon representatives at the stations. No personal reference or resource materials are allowed on the testing circuit.

10. NO CELL PHONES ARE ALLOWED ON THE TESTING SITE. Any infraction of this rule may result in disqualification of the team.

11. Noother electronic or battery operated devices (i.e., ipods, ipads, cell phones, pagers, calculators, computers, camcorders, cameras, or taping devices, etc.) are allowed on the testing circuit. Media personnel (press, camera crew, and agency personnel) may be on-site with an identification badge.

12. No backpacks or similar cases may be taken on the testing circuit. A small device for carrying water and personal items, (i.e. lip balm, medications, sunscreen, etc.) is allowed and encouraged.

13. The winning team at the Lehigh County Envirothon is the team with the highest cumulative score, which includes scores from the five testing stations.

a. Station tiebreakers – In the event of a tie at any given station, predetermined tie-breaking question(s) will determine the winner of that station.

b. Overall Score tiebreakers – In the case of an overall tie, the Forestry test score will determine the placement for the final scores in the Envirothon.

14. In the event Lehigh County’s winning high school team cannot attend the Pennsylvania State Envirothon, the next highest scoring team may be sent in its place.

15. Any team involved with any infraction of the rules shall be subject to disqualification. If any rule is suspected of being violated, the infraction shall be reported to the Lehigh County Conservation District Envirothon Coordinator for action.

16. The Lehigh County Envirothon Rules are subject to change by the Lehigh County Conservation District Envirothon Coordinator. Any and all changes will be announced before the competition begins.

17. Any exception must be considered by the Lehigh County Conservation District and all decisions made by the Lehigh County Conservation District are final.
