Appointment:Legacy and Remembrance Manager

Responsible to:Director of Fundraising & Marketing

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Location:Leicester

Main Purpose of the Job

To plan, manage and implement legacy marketing and In Memoriam activity, to recruit and retain legacy pledgers and In Memoriam supporters and maximise future income from this source of funding.

To develop new products associated with legacies and In memoriam

Primary Responsibilities

  • To develop and implement a legacy and in memoriam giving strategy that delivers targeted income growth.
  • Develop and segment the supporter and legator profile and motivation; and use this information in the targeting of audiences. With the Marketing and Communications team (MarCom) develop hard and soft creative collateral.
  • Carry out analysis of and identify marketing research needs to assist the development of legacy marketing and in memoriam strategies and related product development.
  • Create and develop regular Legacy marketing and In Memoriam / management information.
  • Run legacy/supporter cultivation and stewardship events in order to present the importance of legacy giving and thank supporters
  • Advising and supporting the Association’s staff in effective use and generation of legacy and in memoriam giving
  • Advising and educating staff across the Association on the use of legacy and in memoriam collateral effectively to deliver the Association’s messages and generate future legacies.

Contributing to other Fundraising team projects and activities

  • Working with the Fundraising team on projects to develop diverse income streams.
  • Promoting and raising awareness of our income generation activities among our stakeholders through individual and group presentations and written communications.
  • Working with the CRM database, fundraising, membership, welfare and MarComms teams to produce effective email communications and (e)newsletters.
  • General reporting and administration tasks as required.
  • Assisting in the development and delivery of an income generation plan to deliver the Association’s aims and strategic/operating plan.

  • Building strong and positive relationships with teams across the Association and within external organisations.
  • Keeping professional knowledge and expertise up to date and advising stakeholders within the Association on developments.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Specialist for all Legacy and In Memorium generation and marketing matters
  • Ensure the Institute of Fundraising Guidelines on Legacy and In Memoriam fundraising are followed and implemented.
  • Required to attend all mandatory training identified by manager or RAF Association.
  • Expected to demonstrate a commitment to their own development, to take advantage of education and training opportunities and develop their own competence.
  • Required to work within RAF Association policies and procedures.

Communication and Relationships

  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with In Memoriam and legacy supporters, responding promptly and appropriately to their enquiries, and maintaining regular contact using creative and engaging methods of communication, including written, verbal, face to face and electronic
  • Cascade a communications plan to all areas of the organisation and liaise with other contacts across the organisation to ensure that people are kept informed of relevant activities
  • Work closely with the Fundraising and Marketing teams to dovetail marketing messages and activity.
  • Work closely with the Legacy Administrator and finance team
  • Required to participate in and contribute as appropriate to team meetings.
  • Required to co-operate and liaise with departmental and inter-departmental colleagues

Decision-making and Problem-solving

  • Set and review lead measures for KPIs and milestones
  • Task and engage with internal teams to meet agreed the action plan to support legacy and In memorium strategy

Financial & Physical Resources Responsibility

  • Achieve legacy targets set annually
  • Manage legacy and In memorium budget
  • Expected to use all opportunities to raise the profile of the RAF Association and its work, encourage fundraising and membership

Information

  • Use CRM databases to analyse data and segment and target specific audiences.
  • Develop a reporting dashboard through the Line management
  • Required to respect confidentiality applying to all RAF Association areas.

Physical/Mental Effort

  • This post may require you to drive using your own car (for which you must obtain

appropriate insurance at your own cost) or a hire car for longer journeys

  • You will on occasions be communicating with people who may be fragile and distressed

Health and Safety Responsibilities

Managers’ responsibilities are to:

  • Co-ordinate and maintain health and safety policy management processes, risk control systems and good practice standards with monitoring arrangements within each service, premises and activity.
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture, safe systems of working and good standards of practice.
  • Include health and safety as an agenda item for team meetings with documented minutes documenting actions and the dates they were completed
  • Identify, maintain and keep up to date employee competencies with the provision of health and safety information, training and supervision.

  • Monitor and report to line managerssignificant risks arising from working activities, accident and incidents, risk assessments and team reporting systems.

  • Work in co-operation with landlords, other organisations, local authorities and regulatory inspectors to maintain legal compliance and safe practice.
  • Co-ordinate with contracted service providers to ensure they have suitable health and safety arrangements in place, including risk assessments and method statements and, provide relevant health and safety, emergency and welfare information.
  • Keep up to date with health and safety information provided within the Association and any new developments to improve practice.

Training requirements

One of the objectives of the RAF Association is to build an organisation based on quality. Accordingly, there will be an ongoing need to review the training requirements of staff to meet the changing demands of the organisation. Training requirements will be discussed at the review meetings.

Review procedures

There will be an annual review of the post and job contents. In addition there will be an interim review 6 months after the annual review.

Key Performance Indicators:

Annual Key Performance Indicators will be defined by the Secretary General and Trustees. These are cascaded to relevant Directors who will inform staff of their own objectives and assess

these in an annual appraisal.

Essential / Desirable
Knowledge and Experience / CIM Diploma or previous equivalent experience
At least three years of managing a legacy marketing programme
Experience of planning and executing a Legacy and I n Memoriam strategy delivering results in the region of c£5m / Knowledge of the Royal Air Force, its structure and its history
Awareness of the work of the RAF Association
Relevant degree
Communication and Relationships / Good oral and written communication skills / Good team player
People Management / Able to deal appropriately and sensitively with distressed and upset people
