LECTURER POSTS - JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Lecturer - Band A

The person appointed to a Lecturer Band A post will undertake assigned duties and responsibilities effectively and efficiently, ensuring that their duties are carried out according to the regulatory and legislative requirements to which the College is subject and with full regard for the College's Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety requirements and subject to all College Policies and Procedures.

Lecturer Band A may be required to undertake any of the duties described below:

  1. To teach subject(s) at levels appropriate to his/her qualifications and experience at any location where the College conducts its business. This includes classroom/laboratory/workshop teaching, tutorial work, outreach, residential and open or distance learning courses, full cost work and work placements.
  1. To undertake all necessary planning, preparation and assessment to ensure effective and efficient teaching and to satisfy external body requirements.
  1. To undertake all necessary administrative tasks associated with learner registration, attendance, record keeping and reporting.
  1. To be a member of relevant team(s), attend team meetings and contribute to quality assurance systems and procedures including review and evaluation.
  1. To provide appropriate pre and on-course guidance to support learners through to successful completion.
  1. To contribute to appropriate curriculum development initiatives, evaluation of courses and course materials, and preparation of submissions.
  1. To act as a subject tutor, undertaking the duties associated with that position including course management and organisation, learner interviews and enrolment, marketing and public relations associated with the course.
  1. To participate in staff review and undertake CPD based on identified individual needs.

Lecturer - Band B

A person appointed to a Lecturer Band B post may be required to undertake any of the duties described for a Lecturer Band A and any of the following duties:

  1. To act as a course tutor and leading a course team.
  1. To prepare relevant submissions and liaise with accrediting bodies.
  1. To liaise with schools, industry, the community and other organisations to identify customer requirements, promote the College and recruit learners.

Employees are expected to comply with Health and Safety legislation at all times

They will:

-make themselves familiar with all relevant safety procedure and area arrangements and will observe these and any other health and safety instructions at all times

-use appropriate safety equipment and wear any necessary personal protection equipment

-report all accidents, incidents and near misses using the College reporting procedures whether it is a case of personal injury or not

-report immediately to a supervisor or manager anything which is considered unsafe or unhealthy, stopping work if necessary

-at all times comply with health and safety legislation and not wilfully misuse, neglect or interfere with things provided for their safety

Employees will also, where appropriate, ensure that learners and visitors are fully instructed on safety matters. A number of employees such as managers and technical staff have special responsibilities e.g. undertaking inspections, completing risks assessments and training. These managers and technical staff be fully aware of the College Health and Safety Policy and its related relevant to the areas where they work or have a designated responsibility.

SUMMARY OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS

(INCLUDING REMUNERATION)

Perm/Temp / Permanent subject to a satisfactory probationary period
Grade and Salary / Band B (£22,641 pro rata)
Actual starting salary / £11,320.50
Hours / 18 ½ hours per week
Part-time working / The college is prepared to consider applications for a fraction of the hours advertised. Most posts are suitable for job share, joint applications are welcome. However, applicants who want part-time work but have no job share partner are encouraged to apply as the College can usually make adjustments to accommodate different working arrangements.
Flexible working / Employees are expected to be flexible, hours of work can be subject to averaging. The College is open during the evening and at weekends to a limited extent. The nature of the College's business means that holidays can only to be taken at certain times. The specific details applicable to this post will be discussed at interview.
Qualifications / Lecturers who do not hold a Certificate in Education or equivalent qualification will be expected to achieve Certificate in Education within a timescale that will be agreed at the time of appointment. A non- repayable grant may be available to cover a proportion of the tuition fees however the remaining balance will be the responsibility of the individual either through self funding or access to Student Finance.
