LEAVING A LEGACY
Harvey Hook is Founder and Executive Director of The Gathering, an organization that addresses the moral, ethical, spiritual and leadership needs of business and government leaders, and also serves at-risk children and families in Columbus and the Dominican Republic. Over 77,000 people have directly benefited from Gathering programs since 1988.
Hook currently serves on Mayor Michael Coleman's Religious Advisory Committee, the Central Ohio Better Business Bureau - Integrity Awards Selection Committee, and the Board of Advisors for The Joseph Group Capital Management. His past service includes membership on Mayor Greg Lashutka's Task Force on Racial Reconciliation, Moderator of the Governor's Prisoner Reentry Summit that assisted Governor Voinovich and Prison Fellowship Chairman, Charles Colson help inmates re-integrate into society, and as Secretary of the Greater Columbus Billy Graham Crusade.
During his time of community engagement, Harvey has shared the platform with John H. McConnell, Billy Graham, Elizabeth Dole, Dave Thomas, Rwandan genocide survivor, Immaculee Ilibagiza, Tony Dungy, Zig Ziglar, Jim Tressel, Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, and Kim Phuc – “the girl in the picture.”
Harvey’s first book, The Power of an Ordinary Life,was released by Tyndale Publishers in 2007. A native of Maine, he graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from SUNY Albany, New York, and received his Masters Degree in Counseling, from Denver Seminary. He and Rita (Toth) Hook have been married for 29 years and have two daughters. Rebecca works for a non-profit organization in Washington DC,and Rachel and her husband John Koon, serve an NGO in Moldova, Eastern Europe.
