  1. What is one change or improvement you made to your own self-care practices (e.g. healthy food preparation, stress management, increased physical activity, etc.) in response to your participation in this session?
  1. Dr. Kadar presented several published studies that reported on the lack of prioritization of health promotion and disease prevention screening, counselling, and/or follow-up practices among many healthcare providers, including DCs. After participating in this session, what is one change or improvement you made or plan to make in your practice to support enhancing lifestyle change or self-care practices in your patients and/or community?
  1. Attempting large jumps can often lead to poor and inconsistent results. In my presentations we covered the concept of Moderate Loss = Big Gains. When one reduces their weight by 5-10%. What are the cardiometabolic health improvements the person can benefit from (hint, MCQ above)? Knowing the answers, how could you best keep the patient improving with the strategies we have covered?
  1. As Primary Care Practitioners, we come into contact with many people that need assistance in taking on more responsibility with their health. What is Self Care? What is not Self Care? How as practitioners can we assist our patients with Self Care?
  1. We often get frustrated when patients keep living with their unhealthy habits and find it hard to break unhealthy patterns. What are the factors that make up the recipe for sustainable behavioural change? On reflection, how would these benefit you as a practitioner to be better at helping your patients?

Use this opportunity to reflect on which healthcare providers you already know and ones you should look at building relationships with. So you can achieve better patient outcomes (examples are psychologists, GP’s, counsellors and medical specialists).
  1. We learnt that when confronted with a stressful situation we should ask ourselves whether or not we can influence an outcome. What are the two (2) main points to this strategy? On reflection, think of one or more experiences and/or situations where this strategy may have helped you in the past.
  1. What are the benefits of increasing your intake of plant based foods and fibre?
  1. List the researched benefits of Mindfulness. In reflection, how can you be more mindful and how can you assist your clients to improve their mindfulness?
