Job Title / Early Years and Foundation Stage Teacher
and
Coordinator
Job purpose /  To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for pupils and to support a designated curriculum area as appropriate.
 To monitor and support the overall progress and development of pupils as a teacher
 To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides pupils with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.
 To contribute to raising standards of pupil attainment.
 To share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal growth end enjoyment.
To whom the post holder reports to / The post holder is responsible to:
 The Headteacher and SENCo
 The relevant member of the school leadership group in respect of curriculum and pastoral matters
The post holder is also expected to interact on a professional level with colleagues in order to promote a mutual understanding of the school curriculum with the aim of improving teaching and learning across the school/college.
Duties and responsibilities specific to the post: / Responsible for:
• The education and welfare of a designated class/group of children within the Early Years Foundation Stage
• Contributing to the development of a caring school and community in which there is equality of opportunity
• Leading and managing the Early Years Foundation Stage to provide high quality learning for all children within a safe, secure, happy and caring environment
• Constantly monitoring, evaluating and reviewing provision, teaching and learning to ensure improvement in the Early Years Foundation Stage
• Helping colleagues understand policies and practices in relation to the Early Years Foundation Stage
Key Areas of Responsibility:-
• Support the vision, ethos and policies of the school and promote high levels of achievement in the Early Years Foundation Stage
• Support the creation and implementation of the school improvement plan, especially as it relates to the Early Years Foundation Stage
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the provision in the Foundation Stage in close collaboration with the Headteacher and SENCo
• Be responsible for organising and managing teaching and learning in the Foundation Stage
• Take responsibility for the development and monitoring of the curriculum provision
• Support the Headteacher in the monitoring of the quality of teaching and children’s achievements, including the analysis of Early Years data
• Be responsible for the pastoral care of children, promoting independence and good behaviour, in accordance with school policies
• Ensure that parents are fully involved in their child’s learning and development and well-informed about the Foundation Stage curriculum, their child’s individual targets, progress and achievement
• Develop the use of new and emerging technologies
Leading and Managing Staff – to:
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships across the Foundation Stage team
• Lead training and development activities for FS staff and where appropriate whole school staff, and evaluate outcomes
• Provide support for all Foundation Stage staff
• Support staff in understanding and implementing local and national changes
• Work with the Headteacher and governors to evaluate and review EY policies, plans and priorities
• Take responsibility for the day to day running of the Foundation Stage, including the efficient management of resources and deployment of staff
Teaching and Learning: / • Plan and provide for a creative, stimulating and quality curriculum for all children in the FS which supports a range of learning styles and helps to develop children’s independence
• Ensure that all children in the Foundation Stage are able to learn to the best of their ability
• Ensure that the requirements of the FS are met, including arrangements for assessment and moderation
• Liaise with staff and other professionals within and beyond the school
• Lead and develop assessment practices in the FS, taking account of current initiatives
• Ensure the progress of children in the FS is rigorously monitored through analysing data and contributing
to progress meetings to ensure all children make accelerated progress
• Share and model outstanding FS practice
Professional development – to:
• Ensure own continuing professional development by keeping up to date with current thinking and
developments in FS practice through training and development opportunities and professional reading
• Be a role model for staff, trainees and volunteers and where appropriate, mentor trainees
