Purpose:UFA is looking for motivated, passionate Maths and English tutors to inspire and develop students on a group or 1:1 basis in our Birmingham centre and students homes. Able to tutor students at 11+, KS3 or KS4.

UFA is an educational charity committed to inspiring learning and leadership in young people and will be working in conjunction with Top Tutors Ltd to provide this programme.

The tutor is there to be a positive role model, to coach and motivate a group of up to 5students. Your role will require you to support, stretch and maximise the learning for all the students through a 6/7 week tutoring programme.

Responsibilities of the Tutor

The Tutor will:

  • Lead your group of young people through a 6/7 week group tutoring programme
  • Inspire and motivate the young people in your group or 1:1 session to remain fully committed and inspired to learn
  • Be a positive role model at all times
  • Plan, prepare and facilitate the tutoring sessions
  • Provide resources and tools to help progress your students
  • Provide guided reflection and discipline of young people especially those within their team.
  • Maintain contact with the young people in your group prior to commencementof each session to ensure continued attendance & commitment of team members
  • Work alongside, guide and supportother staff working in other teams
  • Undertake monitoring and evaluation of each student via a progress report

About you

Tutors must demonstrate the following skills and characteristics:

Essential:

  • Willing to have a DBS processed or have a copy of an existing DBS dated within 3 years
  • Have a minimum of a degree in Maths or English
  • Experience of tutoring young people
  • Experience of managing and motivating young people
  • Belief in young people and in helping them catch up or progress in their area of need
  • Experience working directly with teams of young people (either in voluntary or paid capacity), including some with challenging behaviour
  • Experience of facilitating small group discussions and reflecting on learning
  • Passion/interest in building stronger communities and seeing change in society
  • Well organised
  • Sound judgement and a responsible attitude
  • Rapport and empathy with young people
  • Interested in young people’s personal development
  • Able to lead and work as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills

The role is:

  • On a self employed basis, all tutors are liable to pay their own tax and National Insurance contributions
  • 10am-12pm or 12.30-2.30pm on Saturdays. This would be every week through a 6/7 week programme.
  • To start in September 2017
  • Tutoring a group of 4/5 students with the opportunity of moving to 1-1 as courses progress
  • From £20 to £35 per hour dependent on level, experience and subject.

There will be an assessment day for tutors to attend and participate in. This will be interacting with other individuals and working on your own or as part of a team. The day will also include a formal interview. The assessment day will be on Saturday 7th May 2016
