Also the British Council – both for their short articles on English teaching & their site for EFL learners.
And of course the BBC site.
This is a nice visual dictionary :

Berit's Best Sites - directory of kids' web sites
CyberSleuth Kids - search for K-12 students
KidsClick - web directory by a bunch of librarians

BBC Learning English - short courses, quizzes, grammar, vocabulary, audio and video \
Edsitement (National Endowment for the Humanities) – lesson plans

Scholastic News
Time for Kids
Also Ruthi Sheffer put up this list….

Shalom Howie,
TheLiterature Study GuideForGrains Of Sand:The Fall Of NeveDekalim is an interesting, educational, and relevant site. It would make a welcome addition to your new website listing links that assist in, and are related to, the acquisition of the English language. The study guideincludeschallenging and exciting lessons, discussion topics, chapter questions, comprehension exercises, research project ideas, and classroom activities. The study guide is appropriate for native English-speakers as well as EFL, grades 7-12. It can be accessedon the Publisher's website
and the website of thebook's teenage author, Shifra Shomron
I tested each link and eliminated those that no longer work.
I also killed a few that became too "commercially degraded", including one that became a portal to online gaming sites.
And I updated the "Search Engines" section that had become completely out-of-date.
For word play enthusiasts, I recommend joining the WordFun and WordczaRus lists:
