Lean Transformation Award

General:

The Maryland World Class Consortia (MWCC) Lean Transformation Award will be presented at the MWCC’s Mid-Atlantic Lean Conference to outstanding organizations that have embraced lean and exemplified excellence in lean implementation and transformation over the last year. The winner will be chosen based on the degree to which the nominee meets award criteria, as described in their nomination submission.

The MWCC must receive all nominations by September 2, 2014. A committee selected from among the MWCC Board of Directors will judge nominations and the winner will receive an engraved award.

Description:

The award recognizes an MWCC member company that has taken significant steps in their lean transformation and demonstrated exceptional understanding of lean principles, tools and philosophy over the last twelve months.

Eligibility:

Any MWCC member company in good standing is eligible.

Criteria:

Ideally, over the course of the previous twelve months, the member organization should be able to demonstrate their lean aptitude in a number of ways, including, but not limited to:

·  Demonstrated lean advancement by improving in the areas of quality, cost, delivery, morale, and safety;

·  Drew on MWCC resources (such as workshops, coaching, quarterly meetings, and consultants) in their lean implementation;

·  Changed organizational systems and structures to support lean results;

·  Moved closer toward a culture of lean thinking and continuous improvement involving everyone in the organization;

·  Demonstrated that leadership is actively involved in supporting their lean journey;

·  Has demonstrated a constancy of purpose over time in the application of lean thinking;

·  Can describe key examples of how people in their organization identified, designed and implemented innovative lean improvements to processes or value streams;

·  Engaged employees in in-house or externally-provided lean learning and demonstrated a commitment to lean training for all;

·  Acted as a role model for other MWCC members or non-member organizations by motivating and inspiring others to embrace lean; or

·  Supported MWCC goals and values through mentoring others, sharing lessons-learned and best practices, providing tours, hosting workshops, providing volunteers, or in other ways.

Suggested Information:

Please provide specific examples to support the nomination. Aside from informal follow-up questions, information provided is all that judges will use to determine whether or not the nominated organization will receive the award. Please include:

·  A short paragraph describing the company, industry, products and the markets served;

·  A description of the organization’s overall accomplishments and performance results (Example metrics presented as percentage changes from a reference year are helpful. Detailed financial disclosures are not necessary.);

·  Specific examples the nominee can cite in meeting the award criteria and a description of MWCC resources, if any, the nominee has used in its lean journey;

·  Any efforts the nominee has made to support other MWCC member organizations; and

·  Any other considerations the company should receive in being considered for the award.

Selection:

Nominations must be received by the MWCC no later than close of business September 2, 2014. All nominations will be acknowledged by the MWCC by reply email. Judges will determine award recipient(s) and will notify all nominators no later than September 16 of the outcome of their nomination. The award will be presented at a ceremony reception at the MWCC Mid-Atlantic Lean Conference on the evening of October 22, 2014 at the North Baltimore Hotel in Timonium, Maryland.

The winner will receive two complementary seats to the event.
