Leadership Teams

Jr./ Sr. FFA Skills- You give a live presentation, performing an agricultural skill, in front of a panel of judges.
Public Relations- Members will present a presentation to a panel of judges to promote the FFA, encourage students to join, and tell them about the endless opportunities that the FFA offers.
Jr./ Sr. Quiz- This contest is for someone who has a good memory or possibly doesn’t like speaking in front of a group. You would learn the history of the FFA and thenbe quizzed over it.
Ag Issues- For those who like debate, this team could be for you. Members research an issue related to agriculture and then create and present a script that includes the pros and cons of that particular issue.

Jr./ Sr. Creed Speaking- A member will recite the FFA Creed to a panel of judges and then be asked questions pertaining to the creed. If you have good speaking skills or are looking to sharpen up on them this contest may interest you.
Jr./ Sr. Chapter Conducting- This team demonstrates parliamentary procedure through a practice problem. Following the end of the mock meeting, they’re given 10 questions about parliamentary procedure from the judges.
Radio- This is a three person team that takes a hot new agriculture topic and discusses it in a radio type broadcast. Judges will listen as the team recites their script into a microphone and will judge them on their speaking abilities.
Job Interview- One member will participate in a mock interview for an agriculture related job. The contest consists of preparing a resume and a follow up letter, an application to be filled out in a 10 minute time period, a telephone interview between the board of judges, and 5 minutes to write a thankyou letter.

Judging Teams


Dairy Foods
In this contest, members will complete a written exam, evaluate milk samples, identify various cheeses, and compare real and artificial products.
Floriculture
Students identify and evaluate cut flowers, house plants, flowering plants, floral designs and complete an exam that tests their knowledge of floral design.
Livestock

Students evaluate different classes of livestock and place them on quality. This includes cattle, sheep, hogs and goats.

Horse

Members evaluate live horses and rank them on breed characteristics, performance, and appearance.

Land

An outdoor contest which calls for the evaluation of soils to determine the value of property and its uses.

Range
Can you identify the differences between weeds and valuable grasses? Let us teach you how to become better livestock lovers by improving their habitat.

Dairy Cattle

A contest where participants evaluate and place dairy cattle of various ages. Particular emphasis is put on their dairy character and milk production capabilities.

Ag Mechanics
This CDE focuses on skills and competencies learned in ag mechanics classes.


Speaking Events
Extemporaneous Speaking- Members learn how to think on their feet and make a case quickly and persuasively. Contestants are given 30 minutes to prepare a speech on one of three randomly selected agricultural topics. After delivering the speech, contestants may be asked questions about their speech and topic.
Jr./ Sr. Prepared Public Speaking- Each contestant writes and delivers a six-to-eight minute speech about a current agricultural subject of their choice. Participants are then rated based on written speech, speech delivery, and their answers to judges’ questions.
Soil Stewardship- Contestants write and deliver a six-to-eight minute speech in accordance with the year’s theme selected by the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board, Prior to competition the speech must be presented to the local chapter and to at least one civic or school group if competing above the district level.
