Leadership Academy Professional Notebook

The Professional Notebook will be a reflection of your accomplishments over the next yearresulting from participation in the BCTC Leadership Academy. You will be assigned a mentor who will work one-on-one with you on each step of the process. Upon completion of the course, your Notebook will contain the following components:

  1. Professional Information
  2. Leadership Academy Application

A copy ofyour BCTC Leadership Academy Application.

  1. LeadershipAcademy Recommendation Letters

A recommendation letter from your immediate supervisor and three names as professional references.

  1. Professional Resume / Vita

A copy of your original professional resume/vita as of class entry, followed by an updated copy at the end of the course.

  1. Leadership Professional Development

Copies of the past three (3) years’ professional development certificates (or as many as are available). Include anarrative summarywith each professional development activity/event as it relates to leadership.

  1. Professional Leadership Philosophy

Narrative summaries for each of the following leadership philosophy areas, includingexamples of how you applythese skills in work and personal settings.

  1. Definition
  2. Leadership Style
  3. Communication Style
  4. Community Relationships
  5. Advocacy
  6. Evaluation

Notes from BCTC Leadership Academy sessions in sequential order

  1. Personal Leadership Model Reflections

A brief narrative in which youreflect on the “Pathway to Leadership”segment following each BCTC Leadership Academy session. Include:

(a) How your personal leadership style relates to the content of the speaker’s presentation,

(b) Recognition of your interpersonal and intrapersonal skills based upon your own strengths and weakness

(c) Ways you will use this knowledge to grow in your professionalsetting.

*If applicable, describe a situation following each Leadership session that gave you an opportunity to use your new skills, and apply the question: “Did you do anything differently in this situation based on your new knowledge, and what was the result?”

  1. Observational Leadership Experience
  2. KCTCS: Role Model Interview

Narrative: Interview at least one person who works for KCTCS in a leadership capacity. Write a one- page summary of the interview as you reflect on your personal growth. You may conduct up to three interviews. (Your mentor will provide guidance and assistance.)

  1. BCTC: Role Model Interview

Narrative: Interview at least one person (including one from outside of your department) who works at BCTC in a leadership capacity. Write a one page summary of the interview as you reflect on your personal growth. (Your mentor will provide guidance and assistance.)

  1. Community Leader: Role Model Interview

Narrative: Interview at least one person who works within the community in a leadership capacity. Write a one page summary of the interview as you reflect on your personal growth. You may conduct up to three interviews.(Your mentor will provide guidance and assistance.)

  1. Reflections

Narrative: In April, reflect on your experiences and the interviews you conducted, andsummarize the Leadership Academy learning process, including any new skills you may have acquired. Describe (if applicable) how the people you interviewed influenced your pathway to leadership at BCTC or in the community.

A list ofthe roles you have had the opportunity to play as a result of your participation in the BCTC Leadership Academy.

  1. Professional Leadership Roles and Experience

A listof the roles you have had the opportunity to play as a Leader, whether personal or professional.

  1. Evaluation of Leadership
  2. Meyers- Briggs Evaluation: Personality Style

A copy of your Meyers-Briggs Evaluation

  1. LeadershipAcademyPersonality Style

A summary of your findings about your personality and how you fit into the culture of the BCTC Leadership Academy group. Include an action plan for how you will apply the knowledge of your personality style as a leader at BCTC.

  1. Personal Plan of Action / Mission Statement
    A narrative statement containing the following:
  2. How you plan to increase your leadership knowledgefollowing the Academy
  3. How you plan to increase your leadership experience following the Academy
  4. Your personal mission statement (on a separate page at the end.)
