Job Purpose:
Working closely in support of internal staff, key stakeholders and partners to ensure the successful delivery, monitoring and evaluation of ‘Game On’ and other professional club projects and initiatives, in line with Scottish Rugby’s Strategic Plan.

  1. Lead the planning, roll out and delivery ofthe Wooden Spoon ‘Game On’ (tbc) projectto achieve stated aims and objectives by:
  • Plan, coordinate and lead delivery of rugby-based inclusion sessions across specified project area to engage with a specified number of young people from priority groups in the community.
  • Deliver a quality, progressive programme which encourages repeat attendance from targeted young people.
  • Work with the appropriate agencies (Community Safety Partnership, schools, police, youth agencies etc) to identify and recruit suitable young people who fulfill the participant criteria (NEETS aged 16-19).
  • Deliver ‘Game On’ programme (including Get Ready for Work GfW/Foundation Learning FL) to targeted number of recruits including positive progressions to training programmes, further education, apprenticeships, employment.
  • Support Rathbones to ensure effective coordination of the rugby and employability components of the programme.
  • Support the monitoring & evaluation of the project through data gathering, KPI monitoring, case studies and reporting.

  1. Lead on the development and coordination of positive progressions for participants from ‘Game On’ and other related projects.
  • Working with schools, rugby clubs, local authorities, HE/FE institutions, sponsors, and other partner agencies to identify suitable progressions for participants e.g. rugby club involvement, return to school, college, work placements, apprenticeships, employment.
  • Adapt the ‘Game On’ rugby programme content to ensure participants receive training/experience required to secure positive progressions.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of ‘Game On graduates’ throughout their progression activity/placement.

  1. Support the planning and delivery of Edinburgh Rugby events/visits to support key projects such as ‘Game On’.
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver Edinburgh Rugby events (pro club workshops, stadium tours, player visits, match day activity) to support the ‘Game On’ programme and its participants.
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver events to help raise the profile of ‘Game On’ and the professional rugby club e.g. media events, prominent city centre activities.
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver Edinburgh Rugby events (pro club workshops, stadium tours, player visits, match day activity) to support related projects e.g. Referral groups, Schools of Rugby, clubs and schools.

Key Dimensions:
Number and Level of staff: / None
Financial Responsibility: / Working within allocated project budgets.
Physical Resource Responsibility: / Co-ordination of equipment, kit, training materials, resources etc for various projects and sessions.
Working Environment: / Working out in the community supporting the delivery of projects in and around Edinburgh. Travel across Scotland will be requiredoccasionally with occasional overnight stays for events in the most remote parts of Scotland e.g. Western Isles.
Physical aspects of role: / Requirement to undertake rugby training sessions and demonstrate rugby skills and physical competencies.
Impact on public image, business success & viability / Direct impact on Scottish Rugby’s and partners’ local/national image with Key Stakeholders and partners and our ability to grow and develop the game.

Authorities and Limitations:
  • Post holder responsible for delivering national programmes on a regional basis – this will require flexibility including out of normal office hour working including regular evening and weekend work.
  • Post holder responsible for delivering of allocated specific projects and has authority to plan, develop and implement programmes within agreed budget.
  • Authority in resource development to support national programmes and allocated projects.

Qualifications and Attainments: /
  • Level 1 UKCC Rugby Coaching Qualification or equivalent

  • Degree (or equivalent qualification or experience)
  • Level 2 UKCC Rugby Coaching Qualification or equivalent
  • UKCC Coach Educator
  • Speed and Agility Qualification

Knowledge and Experience: /
  • Track record of successfully delivering projects
  • Experience of working productively in partnership with various stakeholders
  • Experience of working successfully with challenging young people.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Scottish Rugby’s Strategic plan
  • Knowledge of contemporary targets and trends within Scottish sport including Reaching Higher
  • Knowledge of structures and programmes in Scottish schools
  • Experience of working productively with volunteers
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong communication skills, in particular, the capacity to contribute with confidence to meetings, discussion and delivering presentations

  • Training or teaching experience
  • Recent experience of working as a volunteer within a sporting context
  • Proven knowledge of roles and responsibilities of a governing body
  • Knowledge of current coach development programmes and experience in delivery of UKCC / UKCF and Coaching Scotland initiatives
  • A thorough knowledge, understanding and evidence of application of LTPD principles
