Program Description

The Lawrence Middle School After-School Workshop is an extended day enrichment program. We offer a wide variety of stimulating courses that emphasize intellectual growth and skills development. Participants can choose up to three (3) workshops per session. The main goal of the program is to provide participants with a safe, fun and friendly environment in which they can learn and grow. There is NO cost for any of the programs.

Registration and Enrollment Policy

Parents may register fromMarch 22 – March 27by completing the registration form and returning it tothe Lawrence Middle School Main Office. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Lawrence Township Public Schools reserves the right to cancel classes that do not have sufficient enrollment. Only students from Lawrence Township are permitted to register and there is no tuition fee.

Schedule, Staff and Location

All courses are taught by certified teachers whose lessons are aligned with the New Jersey Core Content Area Standards. All programs will be held at the following location:

Attendance, Tardiness and Student Code of Conduct

Students are expected to be punctual, prepared and present for every class. If a student is absent from the afterschool program, a parent is required to call the main office prior to class to advise the school of the reason for the absence.

All Lawrence Township Public Schools rules and regulations are in effect during the after schoolprogram. Incidents of disciplinary violations can be considered sufficient grounds for dismissal. Lawrence Township Public Schools students and parents should refer to the Middle School’s student/parent handbooks given out during the school year. Students and parents may obtain a copy of the student/parent handbook by visiting the Lawrence Township Public Schools website at

Textbooks, Supplies, Grades and Academic Rigor

Lawrence Township Public Schools will provide textbooks and/or supplementary materials to students enrolled in the after school program. Students are responsible for the care and return of all textbooks at the conclusion of the program. Lawrence Township Public Schools reserves the right to assess charges for lost or damaged textbooks and/or supplies.

A progress report will be released within two weeks of the conclusion of the program:included in some courses arepre- and post - tests designed to measure the students’ academic growth as well as a host of other assessments designed to document academic progress. Students will be expected to complete and meet the acceptable standards as outlined in each course.

#100: Homework Center Day: Tuesday/Thursdays Instructor: Ms. Minero/Ms. O’Malley

The homework center provides students with a quiet place to do their homework.

#101: A Star is Born Day: TuesdaysInstructor: Ms. Baill

Join us on the LMS Stage. If you like theater then this is the class for you. Work on your literacy skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) as you prepare your own stage performance for the LMS Arts Festival.

#102: Let’s Get Organized Day: TuesdaysInstructor: Ms. Acuna

Assignments, projects, schedules, papers, activities, and more—good organizational skills are important for learning. This course will help develop organizational skills that will increase academic success.

#103: Technology Club Day: TuesdaysInstructor Mr. Stamatelos

Interested in technology? Drones, Go-Pro, Robots, 3-D Printing, Coding and More! The Technology Club is a great place to learn about all of these pieces of technology. Days will be broken down into different themes and all students will have a chance to create and make in our technology room.

Need Math Help? This workshop is designed to provide students with the opportunity to seek solutions to their specific math-related questions and assignments. Bring your homework!

#105: Literary Nation Day: Wednesdays Instructor: Ms. Plunkett

Help create the Nation’s literary magazine! The literary magazine will showcase the extraordinary talent of the school’s writers, artists, photographers, and illustrators. This is a wonderful opportunity to improve your writing and editing skills, to learn how to publish work, and to begin building a strong resume. Magazine members will read and edit submissions, improve creativity, design an exciting layout, and become more familiar with Google tools and digital apps. Our hard work will exemplify the diversity and strength of the student body!

#106: PARCC Prep-LADay: WednesdaysInstructor: Ms. Minero

This workshop is designed to increase student’s performance on the PARCC exam. Students will have an opportunity to practice assessments, gain strategies and discuss test anxiety.

#107: Film Study Day: WednesdaysInstructor:Mr. Giusti

Students will learn about key elements of a film. From there, they will watch films with a critical eye, treating movies as texts. Students will be taught to analyze key features of film in the same way they learn to break down writing in books and short stories. In addition, we may analyze a film adaptation as well, one that is based off of a formerly written story to investigate how the producer was able to portray the same plot within the medium of film.
