Code of Expectations

It is with joy that we welcome you to the 2018 Lasallian Youth Assembly (LYA), District of Eastern North America.We come together in assembly aiming to provide information, education and formation toward achieving a sense of a faith-informed service and action on behalf of justice through community.The LYA is a space to meet fellow Lasallians—students and educators—from across the District and the Institute to exchange ideas and experience witnessing Gospel values in new and exciting ways.

We assume that you will display maturity and responsibility at all times, a trademark of a any good student, especially one who seeks to deepen their Lasallian identity through involvement in Lasallian Youth.It is important that all participants know the expectations governing conduct at this assembly.

All moderators share responsibility for ensuring adherence to this Code.In addition to adhering to the rules and regulations of your own school, all LYA participants will adhere to the following expectations that are non-negotiable:

  1. Participants will attend all activities and be on time for all scheduled gatherings.Nametags are worn at all times.
  1. Participants will remain with the large orsmall groups as assigned, unless given explicit permission by a moderator to do otherwise.
  1. Participants will observe room assignments and established quiet times and "lights out" times.Respect and care must be shown to one’s roommate.
  1. Participants will not engage in visiting members of the opposite gender on the residential floor(s) of the opposite gender.
  1. Participants will abide by residence hall regulations set forth by Manhattan College, giving special care to keep track of room keys and other amenities provided.

Keep in mind you are a guest wherever you are going over the next five days. Participants will treat all property on and off the host site with respect and care.

  1. Participants will ensure that their conduct, dress and demeanor reflect respect for themselves and others. That includes, but is not be limited to, dressing in a clean, neat and modest manor; refraining from vulgar and harassing language: including racial and sexual harassment; abstaining from lying, stealing, fighting and vandalizing.
  2. The purchase, possession, consumption or distribution of alcohol and tobacco and the possession or use of drugs or other controlled substances by any participant is not tolerated.Infraction of this expectation will result in your dismissal from the LYA.
  1. Socializing between night prayer and curfew is done in the space of the community social.Everyone attends the social; together, we return to the residence hall at the end of the social.

Finally, YOU should simply recognize that YOU are responsible for YOUR behavior.

Please understand that any deviation from any LYA expectation may result in the participant's removal from the gathering and police involvement, if necessary.In such cases, parents and school administrators will be notified and youth will be sent home at the family's expense.
