LAS VEGAS – In 2015, Las Vegas welcomed a record-breaking 42.3 million visitors. The travel and tourism industry supports more than 368,000 jobs in Southern Nevada and generates $14.9 billion in local wages and salaries. On May 1-7, Las Vegas joins the U.S. Travel Association – and the rest of the country – in recognizing National Travel and Tourism Week.

To celebrate the industry and the people who work in it, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) is hosting a series of events and activations in conjunction with National Travel and Tourism Week. Here are highlights of the week’s activities and celebrations.

Tourism Rally (Tuesday, May 3rd at 3:30 p.m.)

On Tuesday, May 3, at 3:30 p.m., the LVCVA will host its annual Tourism Rally at the new Toshiba Plaza located outside the T-Mobile Arena adjacent to the T-Mobile Arena.

The rally will feature important industry updates from Nevada Congresswoman Dina Titus, Clark County Commissioner and LVCVA Chairman Lawrence Weekly, Mandalay Bay President/COO and LVCVA Vice Chairman Chuck Bowling, LVCVA Senior Vice President of Operations Terry Jicinsky, Host Committee Chair Oscar B. Goodman, and Highway Vibe Radio personality, Bart Torres as emcee. Following presentations, nearby vendors including California Pizza Kitchen, Double Barrel Roadhouse, Sake Rok and Shake Shack will provide special giveaways and discounts for National Travel and Tourism Week Rally supporters.

Guests are encouraged to wear red to the rally, signifying unity amongst the travel industry. Last year’s event attracted nearly 100 attendees.

“Go Red” for Tourism (Tuesday, May 3rd)

Per the U.S. Travel Association, the color red represents unity in our industry among travel and tourism workers and supporters coast-to-coast. In support of National Travel and Tourism Week, community members are encouraged to wear red during Travel Rally Day on Tuesday, May 3rd. Marquees and billboards throughout Las Vegas will boast National Travel and Tourism Week messaging.
