Paul Newman achieved fame as an actor and a businessman. He started acting in high school, played in Summer Stock Theater after college, and then studied at the Yale School of Drama and the Actors Studio. His screen stardom began with the movies Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956), The Long Hot Summer (1958), and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958).

Some of Newman’s most notable films were made in the 60’s and 70’s, including The Hustler (1961), Hud (1963), Hombre (1967), and Cool Hand Luke (1967). Teaming with Robert Redford, he acted in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) and The Sting (1973). Then, Newman began playing older characters in films like Absence of Malice (1981), The Verdict (1982), and The Color of Money (1986) for which he won an Academy Award.

In 1982, He began marketing his recipes for spaghetti and salad dressing under his “Newman’s Own” label. He donated all of his profits to charities. In 1994, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented him with an award for his charity efforts.
