Introduction
Reiki is a system for personal development, self-healing and the healing of others. On this introductory taster session, you will attain a basic understanding of what Reiki is, gain an awareness of the history of Reikiand ofthe 5 Reiki principals. You will discover how to access Reiki energy and have the opportunity to experience the healing energy of Reiki.
Reiki has been noted to benefit health, happiness and general wellbeing. This taster session will provide you withan opportunity to consider what Reiki is in more detail, and recognise how it may have the potential to improve your life.
What will I learn?
This session aims to increase your knowledge on the subject and history of Reiki, and teach you about the associated benefits to health and wellbeing. Practical Reiki exercises during the session will enable you to feel and reflect on its benefits on a personal level, and a 'Reiki action plan' will be created at the end of the session,where the tutor will also help you identify progression opportunities as appropriate to you.
At the end of the course you will be able to:
  • Create a definition of Reiki and list key facts about its origins
  • Identify the 7 main energy chakras and associated Reiki hand positions
  • Watch a Reiki demonstration and take part in a Reiki relaxation exercise
  • Carry out 2 Reikiexercises and write a reflective account of the benefits of each
  • Create a 'Reiki action plan' to enable you to practice techniques at home
  • Identify and list appropriate progression opportunities

What are the course entry requirements?
  • To get the most out of this session, it is really important that you have a positive attitude towards learning about Reiki and are open to thinking about your own life and how this technique could be of benefit to you. This will support the tutor to individualise the content and provide individual support as necessary
  • In order to attend this course you should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above

How long is the course?
  • 2 – 3 hours

How will I be learning?
You will learn in a variety of ways:
  • Active listening and discussion
  • Paired and group tasks
  • Participation in practical exercises
  • Personal reflection and action planning
  • Access to Moodle (Virtual Learning Environment) will be provided so you can complete some tasks during the session on-line, and access the resources after the session has ended to extend your learning

How will I know if I am making progress?
  • Your tutor will use a range of activities to review your knowledge on the subject and identify any gaps and additional information required
  • You will also receive verbal feedback from the teacher during the session
  • The Individual Learning Plan includes an opportunity for you to assess your knowledge at the start of the session and again at the end against the content. This allows you to identify how much you have learnt and where you might need to do further study or research.
  • You will also be supported to set an individual target for the session based on what you would like to achieve

What course work will I be expected to complete?
You will be asked to complete:
  • A short Individual Learning Plan to assess your starting points and personal goal for the session
  • A Destination Survey and Learner Satisfaction form
  • Course hand-outs as appropriate to capture written evidence against course objectives

Additional Information
  • You might want to consider wearing comfortable clothing which will support you when carrying out some of the practical exercises during the session. A pillow or cushion for personal comfort is optional.

What can I do next?
