LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF WATER SAMPLES

LABORATORY ANALYSIS of water samples from the Kent Highlands Landfill site and from Midway Landfill tanker trucks discharging to the municipal sewer manhole at South 228th Street in Kent, and the South and North Recycling and Disposal Stations at 1350 N 34th ST, Seattle, WA, and 8100 2nd AVE S., Seattle WA, as follows: (Tests shall be invoiced at $100.00 per analysis at the South and North Transfer Stations)

a. The laboratory shall prepare five sample bottles each month, four with preservative added and one without. These shall be delivered monthly to the Kent Highlands Landfill field office upon request of the City. When the sample bottles are delivered, bottles containing samples for the current month shall be picked up by the laboratory’s courier and returned to the lab. The four bottles which contained the preservative shall be composited by the laboratory and shall be analyzed to determine levels (in ppm) of the monthly metal parameters. The bottle without the preservative shall be analyzed to determine the pH of the sample. Reports on the sampling shall be due to the City by the 15th of the sampling month.

Frequency shall be once per month. Tests shall be invoiced at $150.00 per sample, effective 2/1/99.

b. One set of samples shall be collected from a tanker discharging water, that is transported from Midway Landfill, into the municipal sewer manhole at South 228th Street, Kent, Washington. The laboratory will be notified by the City when this activity is required. This grab sample shall be taken from either the spigot on the pump arch loading the tanker or from the tanker discharge. The said sample will be analyzed to determine levels (in ppm) of the monthly parameters.

Frequency shall be once a month but only upon notification by the City, as required when a tanker is discharging into the gravity sewer on South 228th Street, Kent, Washington.

Tests shall be invoiced at $132.00 per grab sample.

2. Quality Assurance

For Metals and Other Non-Organic Compounds (as appropriate) Listed in Contract

a.Analytical Methods: Split the sample, spike one of the samples and then run it as a replicate. Calculate the percent recovery.

b. QC Procedures

(1) Calibration: Calibrate for each sample batch.

(2) Holding Times: Appropriate holding times as to no compromise sample results.

(3) Compound Identification: Adequate to track sample.

This contract may be expanded to cover other analysis of water samples normally conducted by the supplier, as long as such tests are provided using the same pricing structure as the items specifically listed.

All testing shall be in conformance with the procedures set forth in Section 304(g) of the Clean Water Act and contained in 40 CFR Part 136 and amendments thereto, and Section S.6.B.1 of METRO Industrial Waste Discharge Permit #7115-2/28/94 and as revised.

All reports shall be in conformance with Section S.6.B of the METRO permit and shall be submitted for receipt the third week of each month for which samples were taken.
